Re: My other passion...65' Impala SS
X2 on ditching the flex fan. They'll come apart at any rpm. Might not be your hood with a hole in it. Might be your arm or neck. Not worth keeping.
Only other flaw I see is the rubber fuel line. A fire waiting to happen!! Enough negativity!! Awesome Ride!!! Makes me want the 65 Impala I had back again. (30 years ago) Same color but with a black soft top. Was a 340 horse 409 car with 4 gear. SIGH!!! |

*409 65' impala Convert....Drool** I have always loved the lines on these cars and "need" to own a 65 convert before its all said and done. Thanks! |
Re: My other passion...65' Impala SS
I can't wait to see it with the drop spindles. I am wondering if I will want them when I bag mine.
|
Re: My other passion...65' Impala SS
I'd put the stock fan on. Heavy but efficient. You'd loose a couple horses but you have a cruiser not a drag car.
I tried to make a trade with another guy back 20 years ago for his 65 409 4 gear red with red interior and white convert roof car. Original owner too! I had a fully restored 56 belair at the time. He knew his was worth more and wouldn't trade. Thanks for the memories!!! |

Finally got it washed and cleaned up. My disc brakes/dropped spindles and rear lowering springs should get here this week. I am contemplating putting this stuff on myself as opposed to taking it in. Still deciding.:metal:

Re: My other passion...65' Impala SS
I would do it yourself and save money. looks great. I can't wait to see how much it drops it. What kit did you buy?

Also, bought the 2" rear drop springs by Moog. I am real curious to see how it turns out too! Have you done a disc brake conversion? I am pretty resourceful and have done my homework, but do you have any tips if I try it myself? |
Re: My other passion...65' Impala SS
I rebuilt the front end on my 69 impala and its a pain in the ass to compress the coil springs to get them back in.Its easy to get them out using a chain and a floor jack.I rented a coil spring compressor from auto zone that had a spoon shape to the bottom of it i think next time i will buy a nice one that has two hooks on each end.The one i rented made me nervous.

Re: My other passion...65' Impala SS
Very nice! I'd do it myself as well. I hate paying some one else to work on my stuff because I don't trust other people's work.
|
Re: My other passion...65' Impala SS
Cool, parts should arrive this week, and I will attempt it myself!
|
Re: My other passion...65' Impala SS
damn, I looooove 65's! I agree with others, the 65 may be my fav Impala.
and do the work yourself. it's easy and should be very straightforward. I have lowered or bagged I don't know how many vehicles, so if you get stuck, pm me!! that suspension format is a snap to drop or bag!! remember, most auto parts places rent tools, ball joint presses, pickle forks, spring compressors. pay for the rental, bring it back and it's free. and most of all, take you time and do it right. check everything twice and torque appropriately and you'll have something to be proud of. AND you can tell everyone YOU did it!! |
Re: My other passion...65' Impala SS
Parts just arrived! I felt like a kid on Christmas Morning. 2' drop spindles, aluminum 2 piston calipers, 13" cross drilled and slitted rotors, dual master cylinder with 8" power booster, 2" rear lowering springs, and a new 3 row aluminum radiator. Should be a fun install weekend!

LMAO at Hotrodhomi! Very nice, glad to hear the install went ok!

Re: My other passion...65' Impala SS
haha, I know. Here you go hotrodhomi... just rolled it out of the garage after finishing the rear spring install no more than 10 minutes ago... I think the rear springs will settle and give a little more drop after driving on it for a while... Enjoy!

I love it. It makes me want to head to the garage and work on mine. Did you buy a kit or?

Re: My other passion...65' Impala SS
Very nice Impala. The lines of the car really work well with the lowering and wheels. :)
