panelrodder81, Thank you. They were a pain to make. I must have had them in and out about 5 times. But I think they look good and match the fire wall. I almost have all the metal work done and will soon be doing the epoxy primer and then the filler work.

I have been super busy at work so not much new although I did buy a 1954 chevy 3 window cab, hood , and grill for myself this week. It needs the normal patch panels and will get the same floor and firewall as the other 1954. I would like to raise the cowl panel 2 inches and then section the hood 2 inches. I will build a custom frame with air ride and have 18"-20" wheels. I have been collecting parts for a future project and the price was right on it. This will be a long time down the road project.

99 to Life. Yes, it was too cheap to let it slide by. I thought it would be great for the father, kids project. They always come into the garage to see what I am working on.

oldman3. Yes all 3 of them seem to like the old cars. They like to go to the car shows with me. I have a 1954 chevy diecast car on my dresser and my middle daughter told me that see wanted one of those when she was older. My other daughter and my son both like the old trucks like the dad. Now my wife just tells me that they are old cars, I think she must have been dropped alot when was little!

Shannon, finally got the time to check out you entire post. Man the work you do is out of sight. Beds, boards, and love all the panel work. Your panel is going to be killer when done. Wish I had some metal working equipment, so I could try:lol::lol: doing things like that, very very nice work. Jim

oldman3, Thank you very much. I have built a lot of my metal working tools over the years. I look back and see the way I did things a first and think how did I do it without the right tools. It is easly with the right tools. You look like you do great work with what tools you have. Keep up the great work.

The worst is when you spend time working with other peoples' great/appropriate tools and then have to go back to using just your crappy low buck nearly worthless tools and try and do the same work! Then you know what you are missing out but can't do anything about it!

i know EXACTLY what you mean.
Sometimes i think its not so much my experience ive gained, as much as the tools I have. Im still learning all the time, but with better tools, I have much nicer results..

MrDude_1, I could not have said that any better. There is always a reason to buy more tools. I am a tool junkie.

I have been trying to fix the hood on the pickup. The back must have laid on something before the owner had bought it. It had the back edge stretched and I tried using my big grinder with the shrinking disc on it the stretch it back with no luck. So the next thing I thought of was to bead roll a 2 inch wide strip and plug weld it to the bottom of the hood. It stiffened the back edge of the hood up like I wanted. Now I have to readjust the hood now. the next thing will be the front because I think it was also dropped on the nose too. It doesn't fit the profile of the grill and I will fix that. Here are some pictures.

looks great, sux that out of all this sturdy metal the back of the hoods are about the weakest.

Shannon, nice ideal with the stiffing piece.....Jim

Re: 1954 Chevy / S10

99 to Life, I know ,that is the worst part about the trucks. They should have lowered the step in the cowl and then formed the back edge of the hood with a 90 degree bend. That would have stiffened it up.

oldman3, Thank you . It did work very well.

Well I now have the hood fixed in the front. Ended up making most of the very front edge. It now matches up to the grill now. Next was to DA the paint off. I found a few surprises under the paint. A some dents, Bondo and a few rust holes. I borrowed a set of 20 inch wheels to see what it would look like. Here are the pictures.

the 20's look plenty big enough. Nice. I was curious if they would look to small on these trucks. Glad i was proven wrong!! Are you gonna shave the emblems? or put them back on?
