Re: Glovebox Radio

I'm curious as the why your selling without being a Vendor? Maybe you should contact Liz or Josh before selling any thing else.

Re: Glovebox Radio

Kel- are you making them with CD storage for the Non-AC dashes?

Re: Glovebox Radio

i would like to buy one of those from you, the last owner(s) cut my dash! it looks horrible, if i can get one of those from you, i will patch the cut hole(s) and weld them up, grind them down, and still have a radio. oh, by the way, cool idea! you should get a patent!

Re: Glovebox Radio

maybe you should try to make a whole metal glovebox, thatll be better than the cardboard :)

kelsfine69 01-22-2006 01:49 PM

Re: Glovebox Radio

Thats why GM made them out of cardboard, they have to bend go go in thru the front. Alot of aftermarket ones are plastic that have cuts in the top and bottom to fold as they go in. I made a one piece for a A/C truck and there was no way it was going in in one piece.

I'd be interested in one of these /\

If you make it in 2 pieces like the others and assemble it after its through the dash hole it might work.

Looks like excellent workmanship in the others! :c2:

On a side note to the remote for the head unit.
In my 93 I have a Blaupunkt deck with what they call a "thummer" remote. It's an IR remote that attaches to the steering wheel and the sensor "eye" attaches to the dash with double sided tape. The "eye" has a cord, (maybe 2-3 feet), that plugs into the back of the deck.
It's an older deck but they might make newer versions that still use the "thummer".
I've just about forgot what the buttons on the deck itself do! LOL

Useless trivia;
The dash in my 72 is cut. I cut it myself. Would I do it again? In a heartbeat!
I cut the dash, jerked the ashtray out, (disgusting habit anyway), and then made an aluminum plate that cover the ashtray hole and the butt ugly indented in part of the dash where the factory radio mounts. Bolted the aluminum plate to the dash with button head allen bolts.
CDplayer? Bahahahahaha! 72 3/4 ton 4x4 Not a chance in hell it won't skip.

Here are some pics of the AC unit. I went to Walmart and purchased a ballistic nylon car trash bag for $3.99. I cut off the straps and used the supplied velcro to attach it to the box side of the unit.
Pics of box without bag attached, pic of bag, pic with bag attached. (Radio hole is actually straight...poor camera work makes it look crooked!) :)

Latest progress:

I installed an IR extender so that I can operate the remote control with the glovebox door closed. The unit is a PAC IR-X. I built a harness to prevent voltage spikes using the procedure and diagram from the FAQ...

http://www.chevelles.com/techref/ftecref26.html

I secured the pickup eye under the dash in an existing hole using a small plastic clamp. I then secured the transmitter in the glovebox using the same type of clamp. Works great. The IR-X does not work with all remotes so check with PAC to be sure. :)
