Re: Dino63's 66SWB
If i keep looking at that i'm gonna bag mine.
Great job |
Re: Dino63's 66SWB
Nathan,
Whats up with the hood hinges? Are they just mounts you are selling, and I would use my factory hood hinge? Or is what you are selling a new fabricated hood hinge setup? Any idea how much? Any pics of Dino's 63's hinges? Later! Tony from Norcal |

Nathan,
Is Dino going to replace the whole cab or just cut out the back window? Has anything new been done to the 66 since its been running? Does it have hood hinges yet? Later! Tony from Norcal |
Re: Dino63's 66SWB
Ya, I'm interested in the hinges as well, any new word?

Back from the dead... the truck is getting blown apart tomorrow, and the transformation begins.
I had to get the hood hinges set-up today before the truck was scheduled to be torn down. I know there will be lots of questions. I plan on making this a kit. The only difference will be that the "kit" will not come with the cross-bars. It will contain the hood hinge to firewall bracket, the down-tube that runs to the core support, and the gas charged struts. There are still one small tweak that needs to be made before I can put these into production... I will need to make the down-tube adjustable to compensate for possible alignment differences in the cab/coresupport/front sheetmetal. (Got it figured out though!) |

Nathan,
Do you think you will have the hinges ready when I get there in Sept.? Any idea how much yet? Thanks! Tony from Norcal |
Re: Dino63's 66SWB
Porterbuilt, do you have any pics of it layed out with the hinges collapsed. My 63 I cut down my hinges to work but can't open my hood as much as I want.

The hinges in the pic on the 66 have not yet been trimmed. I am attaching a pic of a similar set-up on a 63 Panel... I will need to trim the hinges on the 66 the same way they are trimmed on the 63. The hood opens ALL THE WAY. I will take some pics of the 66 with the hood hinges trimmed this Thurs.-Fri. The truck was supposed to get blown apart this weekend so the chassis could get powdercoated and the fresh 66 Big Window cab and new sheet-metal could get installed... well, plans always seem to change with my buddy Dino :) . Looks like we're leaving this one together and building a new chassis for his 66 Big Window truck!
The new design leaves more room above the tire... so it can be compatible with a 29" diameter tire. |
Re: Dino63's 66SWB
now if only us 67-72 guys could be so lucky.

Well... since the plans for the "big window cab swap" have turned into a custom C4 chassis for the big window... it was time to do a little cosmetic work to the 66. Dino's been busy the last week and a half! The truck has been cleaned up, sealed up in a green primer, some new chrome pieces installed, the cab will get freshened up and get new glass, insulation and so forth. I will continue to post up pics as progress continues (until I can sit down and show Dino how to do it himself!;) ).
Oh yeah... we're calling it the Green Monster! |

I recognize that color! I spent most of the weekend breathing it myself! :metal:

Re: Dino63's 66SWB
what brand is the primer and where did you get it. I am curious because I did not know if it was an epoxy primer or if it would absorb moisture or not. I dont want just black or gray on my car when I primer it and this green makes me think. Thanks

Re: Dino63's 66SWB

The rear diff is out of a 2001 S-10 4WD blazer. They came with an 8.8" ring gear, posi-traction, and disc brakes. I don't remember the width. I am sure we can get Dino to measure it for us. If not I can get a measurement for ya.... eventually! The rear wheel is a 22x9 with an 18mm offset (that equates to a backspacing right between 5.5" and 5.75". The rear tire is a 295 30R22. |
Re: Dino63's 66SWB
What wall thickness was the 2x5? that you used for the rear frame notch. I like the way that setup looks.
