We finished baggin the rear of my rig in early July but had to take on other projects before I attack the front end. It don't lay frame but will be a lot lower when I change out the tires.

As some of ya know I had a motor built by a local shop and have had nothing but problems - studs pulling, springs breaking... this just sucked!!!

This being my only ride aside from my bike I need to keep it running. I replaced the studs with screw in and new set of Edelbrock springs.

Well well last week I pulled the motor (white smoke at start up) n trans (leaking). Went to replace valve guide seals and found that the boss around #5 exhaust valve was damaged. I yanked the 76cc chambered heads with 1.94 /1.5 valves. Swappin in a fresh set of 70cc heads with 2.02/1.6 stainless valves. These were to go into a stock car. I will get a bit of a compression bump with these for sure.

Question for any of you that can assist, what head gasket should I use? How thick or thin? Does is really matter? This is my first go around doing some of this. Seem each time I pay somebody to do work - it sucks!

Here is the motor info:
SB350 bored .040 over = 350
Heads: 2.02/1.6 70cc chambers
Cam: Edelbrock 2102 - .442 lift - mild but lookin for a .465 lift cam now

Thanks!

To know which head gasket you need, you first need to know how far down in the hole your pistons are at TDC. Unless your block has been decked, typical rebuilder pistons will give a .025 piston to deck clearance. If this is the case, you will want the steel shim head gaskets which typically net a .015 compressed thickness. This will give you .040 quench, which is right in the optimum range.

Thanks! Will check that tomorrow. I'll measure the existing perhaps as well. It's a coated steel shim head gasket.

Hang in there crew; I dont trust anybody else to work on stuff. Takes forever to get stuff done but its better in the long run.

Finished the top end rebuild 2 days ago and very happy with the results. Thanks for the shim info guys!!

Still needs a little fine tuning. I've not ever done this much work on a motor before. Me thinks I did OK :-)

Here is a couple of vid's I posted on FB (hope one of the links work) of the initial start up 2 nights ago and yesterday morn....

Not done much to is since my move back to the Bay Area in late 2011. BUT last weekend I finally was able to get back to SoCal and grab my long stepside bed and other parts that my Bro had stored for me. We are doing some kustom work to the fenders and bed. Pic will be posted one day :-)

I shoot off to Reno in the morning to grab a low mile 99-07 14 bolt rearend loaded with 3.73, posi and disc brakes. Got it for a steal!

Finally gonna swap out the Eaton H052 soon. It has a H072 drop out loaded with 4.10 gears and disc brakes....

Hey Cuz!

Nope not yet. Not been able to do much since spring of 2011.... Life after the move home has not been easy - BUT it's been easier that I am back vs living in the High Desert...

The Crew Cab is no longer my daily driver since last Sept - finally! So now I can do a little bit here and there.

Getting ready to shave off the brackets on the late model 14 bolt this week.

from what I could tell when I used to have FB, norm was back in sandiego, and driving the crap out of this truck!

this one helped inspire me to stay with the stepside on my crew.

WOW! Been a very long time since I've cruised in here! Blame FACEBOOK :-)

Life got in the way & Jon is right (thanks man!!), I am back in SoCal and did drive the crap out of my ride for years! She's now fully bagged but not draggin frame. Life got in the way quite a bit almost forcing me to see her (CrewElla) but I still have here and she's been parked nearly a year. I have all 4 rockers and ready to replace starting this weekend I hope. Passenger side first. Got a full standard cab roof and big back window going in. Roof tin to be used for repair panels. As ya see she is now a long stepside stayin that way. Got more parts today. Will be rolling this summer but still under construction. Will be showin at the White Wall Nationals in July in San Pedro, CA. I will post more here and peep the other builds too. Follow along on IG if ya like: East Bay Grease.... Thanks Y'all!!
