Re: The 6.0 Silverado Build

Well, got the flu Sunday night, didnt leave the house till Thursday for work. Still waiting for Summit to bring some stuff. Wife has to work today(sat.) as a snow make up day so I'm hangin out with my 2 year old today. Would take him out in the garage but 19 is a little cold for him. Hoping for some progress next week. Just need to find time to take the truck to pressure wash the frame so I can paint it and set the 6.0 back in. Just cant bring myself to bolt it in with the frame all nasty. Trust me, I tried...TWICE. Will likely have to wait till next weekend.:waah: Hows yours looking?

Re: The 6.0 Silverado Build

OK, wifes home and we're done with lunch. I'm going to pull the engine/trans back out and get some cleaning and paint on the chassis. I dont care if it's
27* outside. Progress will be had today.

Re: The 6.0 Silverado Build

OK, got to cleaning the frame and realized it was pretty nice looking under the dirt. Didnt tear it all apart to paint it like I was planning for three reasons.
1. It's going to get the wheels driven off it... ALOT, so, a perfect chassis is not really nessecary on this truck.
2. Knowing me in 4-6 years when I'm done paying for day care it'll likely get torn down to the frame and completely re-done anyway.
3. I'm ready to boil the rear tires off this thing.
So, the engine and trans are now in for the final time and all I need to do now is mock up or purchase a crossmember for the transmission. As an added bonus, I found out my stock manifolds will work just fine for the time being. My Lokar trans shifter is on the way and I'm waiting to get my harness back from wait4meperformance so I can get back on this thing. Man I'm glad I got out there and got SOMETHING done.

Re: The 6.0 Silverado Build

i'm glad to man!! hey, was wondering... do you have to have the lokar shift cable? and was there alreay a hole on the x member where the front bottom frame stand bolt goes?

STOCKISH 02-06-2010 08:08 PM

Re: The 6.0 Silverado Build

The lokar shifter I have is part number ACA-1800. There was no hole in the crossmember for the lower frame stand bolt. Man, Are you going with a cable shifter instead of the linkage type?

Re: The 6.0 Silverado Build

Mine wouldnt, I just bought the Lokar one. Fits perfect and is fully adjustable. For $60 you cant go wrong. Here's a pic. Same one PCMCOBRA has with a 4l80 and the S&P headers.

Re: The 6.0 Silverado Build

Well, both fuel tanks are ordered, fuel pumps and senders already here so I will assemble and install hopefully this weekend. Need to remove the bed to insatll tanks and fuel lines and engine/trans for the final time so I can paint the frame. I really thought I could leave it in there but my conscience just wont let me do it. O well, I needed another thing to add to my list of "needs" to do. Hopefully I will actually make some progress and will have pics soon.

OK picture police, here we go. Went ahead and pulled the engine and trans back out tonight so I could reinstall the freshly painted accessories as well as the valve covers. Went ahead with the black valve covers and alt, A/C compressor so I would keep with the black and silver like the exterior. Will take the truck and press. wash and paint the chassis this weekend as long as weather permits. Cant wait to pull the bed and get rolling on the fuel system and get the drivetrain reinstalled. Heres what I've got tonight.

Looks really good Josh. I am sure you are getting antsy to have it back together and drive the heck out of it. Oh, the alternator looks great in black.:burnout:

Re: The 6.0 Silverado Build

The black looks great in person. For some reason in the pic it looks like it's bubbly? It actually looks better than I expected.

Re: The 6.0 Silverado Build

what did you guys do for power steering lines,,, the high pressure hose was cut... its long enough just dont have any fitting at the end I could try to adapt...
what do you guys recommend? just need the fastest, easiest, way to do it.. doesnt have to be the cheapest route!!!! I tried a few part stores but they "dont do" power steering hoses,
thanks in advanced,,,

Re: The 6.0 Silverado Build

fpjr0 -You can use the original hose from the truck. Take the hose off the original PS pump, then remove the fitting that it was threaded into (the fitting that threads into the back of the pump). Replace that fitting on the LS pump with the one from your truck's pump, and use the truck's original hose.

Josh - It's looking great! :metal:
