Build is looking great.

Man I sure wish you were futher down near SoCal. I would SOOO love to get that rear suspension parts from you, since the PO had converted mine to leaf springs and I want to go back to the coil setup.

Keep up the good work!

I was born and raised down in SD, wish i was still down there. I was going to give all the metal to a guy at work who scraps steel.

Thanks man

Hey Drtyrat, I just found this thread and want to ask a couple questions about your painting. You said,

"Spent some time getting the frame stripped clean of years of grime and oil leaks. Used engine brite, super clean, wire brush, putty knife and finished it with a wire brush wheel on my 4 1/2" grinder. I'm going to wipe it down with acetone and prime and paint it today."

I assume you followed the same process/same paint - Rustoleum Pro in a silver color?

But if the parts were new from PB did you have to remove some kind of oil or preservative from them? Did they have light surface rust? If so, how much did you worry about that - did you get it ALL off, or just most of it then proceed with the paint prep process you describe?

The PB parts came clean & bare from Porterbuilt, and all i did is scuff them up with some 320 grit sand paper and a red scotch brite pad. Then clean, prime & paint.

I wish Porter Built sold a setup for my '46. Maybe one they have already would be adaptable?

Any updates?

You got the arms on yet?

DRTYRAT30 09-02-2010 07:45 PM

Re: 1963 C10 SWB Big Window Build

Arm's?

Not much here, bought a high hump floor section off a board member so i can start to clean up the firewall and paint it. Then on to the Booster/MC, brakes.

Still trying to decide if i want to order a GM crate engine from Jegs or not. Having a new motor dropped off at your door sounds nice.
