Here's a '70 GMC C3500 SRW cab & chassis that was ordered to install the utility bed and Alaskan Camper on. 350/4spd, posi, and a/c. These are current pictures a friend sent last week. He's had it a long time but now looking to sell

Can't see the whole shebang, but that bed being offset of center, (rear pic) seems like it would along with the added crown of the road, prematurely wear out that right rear tire.

On high hopes, yes. It's a friend and I at least want to help him establish a good price. It's a nice '70 1t w/utility bed AND it's a nice Alaskan camper. I'd want it all together but I wonder if selling separate is a good idea. I mean if someone wants it all and wants to pay, great. But they both have strong individual values.

Good eye on that. I didn't catch that. Not sure what's going on there but I believe that side bin is full depth. I think that back panel just lays over the body on that side and lays over less on the side with tag? I am sure this truck was designed and built properly. It was professionally built when new. He ordered just the truck and camper he wanted. My friend is the second owner and he's had it about 15 years. I'll ask about tire wear

Here is a picture of that bin

I think that a toolbox bed would be the perfect setup for a truck camper because you can store all your camping crap in the cabinets, making it easily accessible.

Re: pics of truck campers

Keep your stinky wet camping, hunting, and fishing gear in the bins. Just less clutter inside.

Well never seen that before. Must be the outer trim on the camper that gives it the off-center look. Custom made for a custom fit!:gmc2:

Re: pics of truck campers

Not sure why the effort was made for all that. Must be some good reason. I know Alaskan offered utility bodies themselves, so this is probably one.

I look at those fender extensions on the rear, which utility bodies usually don't have, and wonder if the original owner set it up with dual wheels. Not sure why he wouldn't have just bought the more common DRW cab & chassis. DRW utility bodies are made wider with deeper boxes, more storage. But maybe the owner wanted the truck less bulky

I inquired about this truck and comper. I don't know everything about this truck but I do know.,... original owner meticulously put this truck together from new.
He was a documentary native Indian film maker who traveled all over the west while living in the camper.
The truck has been out west since new.
The original owner kept the truck for 30+ years, sold to the current owner who Is ready to let it go to the next guardian.
He is nothing but a sweetheart of man still very active for 80 something years of age living in az and doing very well.
To me, the truck is nothing but Kool and everything I would want in a truck or camper.
Keep it simple, that's all I try to do.
Dan

Thanks for sharing that. It's all exactly what I know to be true. So you know Paul, eh?

Re: pics of truck campers

Yes, a little. I only know Paul threw many phone calls with some being quite long. I do wish I lived closer to him but at least I do know him.
We did work out a purchase agreement for the truck. Plan on picking it up late oct.
I am looking forward to a long road trip in a classy truck and camper. Only bad thing is I will be alone. The trip is 16000 miles to get home.
Have you known Paul very long. You are quite far from Tucson also.

This truck takes me back to 6th grade. Dad bought a all white 69 or 70 K20 with those same service boxes minus the fender extensions and a standard width box. Service boxes with different door configurations on each side aren't the norm.

I think the interior was blue on the one we had.

We didn't have a fancy Alaskan camper just a nice homemade one that was used for hunting and fishing trips and one road trip to Minnesota.

Wow that's pretty Kool. The truck and camper take me back to the seventys also. I guess I'm hopelessly stuck in the seventys. I sure am thankful I got to grow up back then. We we're somewhat poor but had lots of fun growing up. It was a lot simpler way of life, and you new your neighbors and played in the neighborhood streets.
I'm glad I have all my memories.

Same here about living in the better days as much as possible and feeling fortunate to know them. I know Paul from here. He's been a member a long time. We have spoken on occasion. I had two sisters in northern NM (Taos), although one had passed, so we had that connection.

I hope you enjoy the truck. I've seen many fine fishing rigs come out of your area. I'm talking no rust original owner C/10s with camper shell. Summer use only

That's a great memory to have. My dad bought a new '63 VW Kombi (panel) and built it into a camper.

I am mostly familiar with Reading bodies because that was my brand. We had the truck outfitter for the region here in town until the recession shut it down. I also looked at other brand brochures. With utility bodies they have two standard sides, A & B. They come standard with an A/B configuration. You can order them same both sides as an option

Here are 5 more ads you may like from the same publication. I think I got these from a previous camper thread. Most likely originally posted by Jocko.
