Well, I'd like to go with Electronic ignition Orge

Now my Horn isn't working.I know it isn't the fuse, because I just replaced them..The relay is old as dirt

man bro if it wasn't for bad luck you'd have no luck at all I rewired my whole truck but have yet to run power to it so I may be on the same sinking ship :)

Welcome to my world

Ordered a New Horn Relay from O'reillys so hopefully that'll fix the problem

Where is the best place to get new tail light wiring?

The Speedometer cable won't come out where the Transmission is? Its pissing me off, I've sprayed WD-40 on it...Still nothing, I've tried pliers

Well I know my Dimmer switch to works. I am guessing my headlight switch works fine..but all that doesn't work, is the Dome light. Still trying to figure out why the Right indicator light isn't blinking correctly
All of the Dash lights worked, just checked them..Dimmer switch works fine. Dome light and right indicator light doesn't working... Guessing the flasher is shorting out
The tail lights wiring has Fuse links in it so another sign of MAJOR ISSUES.
Cleaned the Fuse area and grounding wiring

Lost the Barb fitting on the end of the Vacuum line, don't ask how.. I have no damn clue !! Thankfully I have another one on the extra Vacuum advance
The truck still wants to die when I press the Gas pedal at times, I am guessing its because the Vacuum lines not hooked up

pm lowrodder and get his distributor for shipping. he has already offered it.

buying new parts instead of testing them is often a waste of money.
harbor fright has free multimeters right now.
pick one up and get to know how they work.

the horn rely is hot and also the main power feed for the whole wiring system
the horn button grounds the relay to make the horn work
figure out what is wrong with the system before buying parts
usually it is the horn button, easy to test by unplugging the horn button wire and ground the wire to the relay

Re: Project "Schrum" 1959 Gmc 100

Turns out it was the relay !!! Bought one from O'reillys and sure enough once I plugged it in it worked a lot better. I mean I've heard bad things bout the HEI so Im not sure about it to be honest. I've tried wiggling the old speedo out of the Transmission and it will not twist off..So I'm stuck !!!

Fiddling with the Wiring, I got the Vacuum Wipers to work as they should(I think)
It starts up on command now.Making some good progress.
They move now.Theres a hole in the Vacuum wiper hose to the manifold, and I'm going to wrap it up. Running great, I still need to hook up the Vacuum Advance. It blows out some smoke? Guessing thats normal...its not much, only when I start it up very little

Found this while looking for something else, 1959 factory turn signal wiring diagram, looks like the flasher is just up under the dash.

Re: Project "Schrum" 1959 Gmc 100

Okay UPDATE
Finally got the old Speedo Cable housing out off of the Transmission
Put the new one in, on the Gauge, and the Tranny
Gauge still doesn't work, I am starting to think that, that Plastic gear thing has pretty much worn itself out

Re: Project "Schrum" 1959 Gmc 100

if you are ambitious you might want to carefully take apart the speedo to see if anything is stuck ,
dont force anything just give it a good light cleaning and check for anything loose or gummed up
might be in the speedo head
juss sayin is all !

You forgot costs for primer, plastic, consumables. Also body tools if you don't have them unless you are going for the barn find look. Trace the yellow wires from the signal harness, you will find the flasher, the empty connector or a bare end.

Re: Project "Schrum" 1959 Gmc 100

Sadly, its already been primerd over with that black stuff, It has to have one connected or the Left side flasher wouldn't work

Okay, finally figured out where the Turn signal flasher was located I was looking at it the whole time and had no idea. When I take the lever down it flashes, but when I turn it up nothing happens, I am starting to think the Turn signal switch is the issue here. I really shouldn't be worrying about the Turn signals now but I just like working on the smaller items before I move to the bigger issues

When I turn my headlight switch on, even when the key is not in the ignition the Gauges move? What in tarnation LOL.. I removed the dome light because it looked to be missing the connection socket..Buy another one I guess.

Took the Speedo Gear off
Cleaned it up after this photo, but I didn't see the plastic gear in there, and have no idea how to take it apart to replace the Gear

Currently trying to figure out when I pull the headlight switch knob the gauges work, and when I turn the key the dash lights turn on

Going to print this out for Reference
I did unplug and switch wires"I think" probably, I can get it done tomorrow if I can print this out somewhere

Re: Project "Schrum" 1959 Gmc 100

Always nice to get the new patch panels, now the work begins...

I would fix the doors first, hinge pocket if needed and get them aligned to the cab. Then then do the corner and step, bracing the upper part if necessary to keep the alignment. A few guys have had to modify the doors because the lower cab moved around during repair.

Re: Project "Schrum" 1959 Gmc 100

The Dome lights wiring is completely different than what is on the truck right now?
Can't find the wiring since I took the dome light off.Found out the issue with the gauges moving when I turned on the headlight switch, Some wire I had grounded to the fuse box... When I took it off when the headlight switch was on the gauges went back to normal.. I believe it goes to the Heater(NOT SURE) But when I turn on the headlights I could turn the Heater on and when they were off I couldn't really weird ...

Got a Cab corner as well

Buying Door things here soon
