Re: 1970 C30 Car hauler Buildish thread.

Unfortunately No real progress has been made on the truck. I've been busy redoing the bead roller. The forward and reverse switch broke a few years ago and I have been wanting to finish it for a while now, That and I needed to make a table for it, it keeps leaving scratch marks when I make a turn.

I made a table out of leftover scraps.

I made some stand off to mount the table

I started tearing it down, I built it 9 or 10 years ago when I only had a cheap stick welder and just started to learn to weld, I warped it really bad and had to put it in a press to fix it.

Wow! You have a lot of time in that bead roller and it is sweet! I really like your garden area too. My wife wants to do another garden this year. We had an area tilled and I'm glad we didn't plant anything yet. It keeps dipping below freezing here still. Keep up the great work!

Thanks, yea the bead roller has gone through several iterations over the years, but I also just got to the point to where I could use it with each I never made it nice. I always intended to but it never happened until now. I'm hoping to get started on the garden before my sugary, but I looks like I may end up getting a late start this year. I'm hoping this week will have been the last freeze we get. It got down below freezing two days this week here as well.

I finally finished the bead roller it only took me 9 years.

Thanks! Unfortunately this will probably be the last update for a while as i'm getting ready to have replacement hip surgery in a few hours.

Not much progress has been made,

I cut another hole in the cab, It goes from my switch panel to the box that the air compressors sit in. I will be wiring up a six way relay box that will be going inside of the box it will control the air compressors, the roof rack lights, rear light bar, the tie down bed lights, Maybe an air horn or something?

Thank you! I only have the front two wheels and tires at the moment as that is all I could afford at the moment, that and I'm planning on running a different rear end and may run a different lug pattern depending on what axle I can get a good deal on. At the moment I. considering on an axle out of a dodge 4500/ 5500 the Dana S110 its has a GAWR of 14,706 lbs. I would like a dana 80 but I cant seem to find one at a reasonable price.

That said the wheels are off ebay, One was a return with a few scratches that I got for half price! and I ordered the other from the same seller. You can also find them on amazon https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07RJZK4X7...v_ov_lig_dp_it

Buddy, I know what your going through, it kills me that I only get a couple yours in a day. Same situation, numerous back surgerys from 2012 to current, I have 3 rods in my back fusing my spine to my pelvis. I cant bend for **** and when I do i get the Ole sciatica pain doesn't play nice. That being said your build is pretty badass and your doing a great job. i Hope your doing well and continue to do so.... don't push it too hard. its very easy to hurt yourself further, just by lifting too much or twisting wrong and set you back further. Ask me how I know.

Thanks, we are just getting in the the good weather here 70-80F, I'm happy how the box turned out, other then running out of carpet. It sounds great. I wanted to get the all the wiring done inside the cab before I turned the truck around. I even wired it up for a amp but I don't think it need one.

I took it around back for a few pics before I turned it around.

Thanks, I'm happy with how it turned out.

I picked up a new axle a Dana 80 dually posi with 3:54 gears out of a second gen 3500. The dana 80 is 72.75 hub to hub and the stock axle is around 63 hub to hub. I will need to move the Spring Perchs and shock mounts. The axle had new bearings seals, and brake pads but one seal was leaking really bad and runed the pads. After pulling it apart it looks like the breather was clogged. But there is some wear on the axle where the seal sits, so I will be installing a set of speedi-sleeve 99296.

Nice find on the D80. You should like that a lot better. The 3:54s just work so well behind a 12v. If you decide to sell the HO rear axle I might be interested in it.

I have been looking for a rear axle for a while now. I really wanted a dana s 110 but the gearing is just to short, I would have had to go with 4:30 gears. But I'm happy with the dana 80 and is should be great on the interstate. I am selling it, But I cannot imagine what shipping would cost.

I removed the coil spring perches that were booger welded on.

I also reinstalled parking brake pedal as i'm finally going to have a parking brake, well if fedex every decides to drop off my packages. I was going to make an electric parking brake as the fuse box I made is in the way but I think it will just fit with 3/8 on both sides.

I made some shock mount brackets the inside factory mount was the same place as the outside mount on the old axle. so I just had to add one tab to each side and that way II Will hopefully be able to use the dana 80 sway bar.

Sorry about the pic size.

The jig ended up working perfectly, Its all the little things that take for ever, that and it doesn't help that Fedex ended up losing some of my brake parts for the axle.

I installed a pair of Speedi-Sleeves on the axle but they where to long I had to trim them to fit. Not sure If your supposed to but It worked out.

Well..... Waiting on brake parts I finally decided to install the mirrors. So I have be trying to decide on what to do about the mirrors for a few years now. I like the way west coast tow mirrors look but the idea of drilling all those holes in the dor and then in a few year then starting to rust I just could not bring my self to do it. The and I need the mirrors to fold out of the way as I park it in the lower half of our barn and its narrow. After years of trying to decide on how to mount the mirrors I decided to mount them like the way the do on the kodiak trucks on the cowl. My cowl panel is junk It hand a lot of little holes and pitting already so I have no problem cutting it up.
