While waiting for the motor to be delivered, I addressed some transmission leak issues. Changed out the shift shaft seal and dropped the pan to clean it out and to change the trans filter. Pic of the trans pan because it looked so nice after cleaning it up! After about 5 hours worth of work in the new motor, it is basically ready to drop in the truck. Hopefully I'll be able to work on it in the afternoon and maybe get it cranked,n

Wow, well done on the trans and the new engine, I see the oil dipstick is on the passenger side of the new engine, I wonder why GM changed sides ........

Got the new crate 350 running today! Finished installing it earlier this week and finally got it cranked after having a tough time getting the distributor set in the correct spot. Got the 3 30 minute break in runs completed today to break in the cam. Hopefully I'll have some time to go ride around in it tomorrow!
I was also having an issue with the cluster lights not coming on and the dome light being intermittent. Replaced the headlight switch and all those issues were fixed! |

Well it's running good, other than the fact that when the crate motor was assembled they didn't do the oil pan gasket correctly and I have two leaks from the oil pan gasket. Waiting for a call from an assigned tech to my issue to see how they will handle the warranty claim... ugh!

Moved it's first furniture since the new motor, even if it was only two rocking chairs! Had to get a night pic now that I got the tag light working as well. Today I swapped the door seals and the sill plates. The other side was much worse to start off with due to rust, but I forgot to get a before pic. Looks much better without the cracking rubber with over spray.

Right on BW, what about the oil leak???

Tonight I was able to swap out the ignition part, glove box lock and door locks. So now I have a nice GM key that works in the ignition and all the locks! Was a very easy process!

Re: Bringing my Grandfather's 1972 Longbed Stepside C10 back to life

do you have a local shop you trust to make the repairs ???? well done on the key n locks ...... I really like your truck!!! |

Got a new windshield in today! Amazing how much easier it is to see without all the milkiness around the edges and all the scratches in the old one. Windshield guys think it was probably the original glass. Also fortunately, there was only surface rust on portions of the pinch weld. The windshield guys were glad that the pinch weld didn't come off with the gasket haha!

That is a nice truck. If you want you can bring that trucks back mostly you will be really surprised I bet assuming it hasn't been clear coated and peeling. Anyway this is all you need and its not that much. Slow and easy little at a time in the shade. that's what I used on my truck. I like the polisher because its random Orbit and doesn't leave swirl marks.

Congrats on the new windshield. enjoy the view :)

Re: Bringing my Grandfather's 1972 Longbed Stepside C10 back to life
Nice work on Grandpa's truck. Sorry to hear about the bum 305 and now the oil leak. At least the warranty is going to cover it though. Nice new glass sure makes them nice!

Re: Bringing my Grandfather's 1972 Longbed Stepside C10 back to life
I feel like we're doing the same on our trucks, mine is going for a windshield June 1st, they want 300 installed, is that about what you paid??

I needed to replace the old exhaust as was really rusted with leaks and holes all over. I ordered the dual exhaust from LMC as it allowed for use of the factory manifolds. Also all of the local places wanted over $600 to build a replacement single pipe system. The LMC one was $430 to the door so not too bad. Only issue is when I opened it today it was missing one of the mufflers lol! So I have it all installed except for the muffler back on the passenger side. Will be calling the supplier tomorrow for LMC to get them to send me another muffler. Sounds good, will probably sound more tame when one side isn't a straight pipe lol.
