I had to patch a hole that I created while welding the cab corner in. It turned out okay I think. Next is the floorboard and the metal work for the cab will be done!! Yeah!!

Today I cut the floorboard out and got the new one cut down. I just have to send it to my friend and have him bend the front lip down. Maybe by next weekend, I will have the metalwork done on this cab so I can start on the chassis.

All I could muster today was fitting my floorboard and placing a couple of tacks. It's not quite fitting right, and I marked it incorrectly. Kinda just sucked all the life out of me today.

Well, today was a major milestone for me. I have no more new pieces left on the shelf! I still need to flip the cab up so I can finish welding a few areas on the bottom. It feels pretty good to have made it to this point, but I still have a looong way to go :)

Great job! The rust repair always seems to take the longest. Well, until you start putting the truck back together and can't find half of your parts. Keep up the great work!

Finished with the major metal work today! I flipped the cab on its nose and finished up welding a few of the loose ends. I also decided to spray on some rubberized undercoating. Hopefully that decision doesn't bite me in the a$$ later.

I didn't directly work on the truck this weekend, but I build a dolly for the bed to rest on, as well as one for my Fleetline that I had to bring home. I've actually had the car for about 10 years, but sadly I haven't focused any effort on it.

Re: 69 GMC "Ol' Blue"
Hey your cab looks great! Sorry I missed all the progress. I am thinking about doing some type of under coating too. You mind sharing what you used on yours?
I'm diggin your bed dollys. BTW, that looks like a cool old car project you brought home too. |

I actually have had the '47 much longer than the '69. I'm thinking I'll be getting rid of it as I just don't think I'll have time to work on it. |
Re: 69 GMC "Ol' Blue"
Maybe a very similar product. I used 3M and it too said liner/sound deadener, and I swear it looks identiacal to yours.
Got a very good discount on my cans ($5 each, normally $9 I think) and I layered it on very thick (multiple coats), especially in all the crevices, seams and all. I think this is it http://www.mustangsunlimited.com/ProdImages/8883.jpg Awesome stuff. I could hit (easily) anything I pointed at from 3+ feet away. :metal: You're method smarter, since you detached your cab. Don't forget to spay (or seam seal) your welds, or both. |
Re: 69 GMC "Ol' Blue"
Yeah, I'm sure they're pretty similar.
I sprayed the crap out of all the joints, but I'm going to hit them with seam sealer as well. I'm also going to coat the inside of the rockers with Eastwood's Internal Frame Coating to try and keep the rust from ever coming back :) |
Re: 69 GMC "Ol' Blue"
Cool. Seam seal your naked welds (inside & out), then coat. Looking real good!

Re: 69 GMC "Ol' Blue"
Nice work on the cab. Very impressive ...

Re: 69 GMC "Ol' Blue"
Thanks guys!
Well, I was hoping to get out and get the bed off the frame but it turned way to cold for me to be outside :) |

Well, with help from some friends today the bed has been pulled off. Now maybe I can actually work on it this frigid winter

Well thanks. Hopefully I can move a little faster than I have lately :)
I hope to pick up a new front axle this weekend! D44 w/ disk brakes, and a 4:10 to match the rear :metal: Then I'll have one more piece to stare at  |
Re: 69 GMC "Ol' Blue"
Great Build. Subscribed. Looked forward to seeing your progress. Impressive rust repair!! :ww:

Re: 69 GMC "Ol' Blue"
I picked up my new front end yesterday! It's a Corporate 10 Bolt instead of the Dana 44 I was hoping for. I can't really complain though because it has disk brakes and matches my rear gear ratio and I only paid $160 for it.
Now I'm going to go out and get some things done and I'll post some pictures later today. |

Re: 69 GMC "Ol' Blue"
So, it's kinda sad but the only thing I got done on the truck with 4 days off was to clean the transfer case a little more. I also purchased an engine stand, but didn't get the chance to separate the engine and tranny. Man, cleaning of 40 yrs of grease and dirt blows!!!! Hammer and chisel works every time though
I'm thinking I may have to find me another TCase as the teeth on my input shaft on the 221 seems to be pretty warn. |

Yesterday with the help of some buddies, I finished stripping the frame down to nothing. We removed the overload stops and all the lines. I'm going to start getting some quotes to have the frame blasted because I really just don't want to deal with the mess.

I tore apart the T case today. Thanks to another awesome member, I got a new input shaft, and it looks like that was the only issue with my current one.
