Re: Project: B.A.D. 1976 K30 CCLB
My K30 came with 9 leafs in the rear with 2 overloads and 4 leafs in the front with just a slight positive arch with or without a 454 sitting in it. It was a cab & chassis model and it also has the camper special badges on the cab so I guess that's why it was so beefed up.
The truck keeps looking better and better man! Could you have torched the rivets out of that front cross member, slid it forward then re-drilled and bolted it in place? |

I thought about that on the front cross member too. But the problem with that is I'd have to put it in front of the steering box bolts and then there goes my support in that area of the frame. That's why I decided to leave it in the original location and modify it. |
Re: Project: B.A.D. 1976 K30 CCLB
Oh ok I'll have to see what you're going to do for your bracing up there.

Today I continued on the front cross member. I was making great progress until I ran out of mig wire. So I cut out templates for the pieces I need to cut out to weld in place. Hopefully tomorrow I'll get it done.

Re: Project: B.A.D. 1976 K30 CCLB
Your build is coming along nice.
What auto trans would you use on a cummins swap? |
Re: Project: B.A.D. 1976 K30 CCLB

Re: Project: B.A.D. 1976 K30 CCLB
Over the weekend I didn't get as much done as I would have liked to. I had to make some repairs to the shop, and we had some family stuff to attend to. Here's what I've gotten done lately.
http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...0/DSC00504.jpg http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...0/DSC00503.jpg I was curious how the turbo was going to fit over there and here is what it looks like with a S362 on it. I plan on running a HX35W as long as the turbo is rebuild-able. http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...0/DSC00502.jpg http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...0/DSC00505.jpg http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...0/DSC00506.jpg http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...0/DSC00507.jpg |
Re: Project: B.A.D. 1976 K30 CCLB
Made some progress this morning on building the engine cross member. Still have a lot left to do but it's a start.
http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...0/DSC00509.jpg http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...0/DSC00508.jpg The cross member will be able to be removed with the engine mounts able to stay in the frame that way if you ever need to remove the oil pan you can do so without removing the engine. |

Re: Project: B.A.D. 1976 K30 CCLB
Great work there Ryan!
Im really surprised at how much room you have between the diff and oil pan because everyone else that talks about doing this swap says that you HAVE TO have at least 4" of lift. |

Re: Project: B.A.D. 1976 K30 CCLB
Wait, wait, wait. A VE pumped 24 Valve! I dont know how I missed that. Thats freakin cool! I need a Cummins/auto combo something bad! Nice work man.

Re: Project: B.A.D. 1976 K30 CCLB
I know I probably over looked it, but what style motor mount is the one bolted to the block on the passenger side?
Ex, I know that's a 94-02 style mount on the drivers side because its the same kind on my 97 Dodge CTD. |
Re: Project: B.A.D. 1976 K30 CCLB
Driver side is 2nd gen 12v and passenger side is 24V if I remember right.

I have a triple billet Goerend converter I need to get restalled, so I'll just need about $1200 to buy most of the parts to rebuild the trans. Then drive shafts and so on. This week I'm going to go get a 73-79 front clip for it. I need more hours in a day. |

Re: Project: B.A.D. 1976 K30 CCLB
This weekend I picked up a 73-79 front clip for this truck. I'm going to gather trans parts for it and I'm sending my torque converter in to get restalled. I'd like to get this truck drivable before Septmeber. Oh boy.
