Re: my 50 build... why not?
hey your build looks great. I was wondering who you went with on the 4 link kit? I am looking to do a 4 link and mintub this winter before i do the bodywork
|
Re: my 50 build... why not?
Competition engineering is the company. I'd have to look at what exactly kit it was though. There's a LOT of measuring and a LOT of research on how to weld this in properly. If you don't plan on doing a lot of racing, then go with a made to fit 4 link kit as this is unnecessary otherwise. An improper installed 4 link can be just as dangerous as a bad set of welds. Just make sure it's the right kit for you.

Re: my 50 build... why not?
Thanks! Got a lot done on this busy weekend. Pulled some bushes out, planted a bunch of flowers for the lady, sold my 53 bel air, had a kickass show, and got the cab READY FOR PAINT!!
Everything masked up. http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps687edd06.jpg http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q...psb6ff29af.jpg I had just a bit of touch up to do. http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q...psb9000a63.jpg http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q...psde79a657.jpg http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps3cae8444.jpg And sanded down again. http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q...psa959c285.jpg And perfection http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps53b9742e.jpg Nice strait lines http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q...psde8b890f.jpg Now I need to make the seat brackets, lizard skin the inside, make a bracket from the steering column bracket on the dash to the brake booster, then plumb the brake lines, and this thing goes off for color. :metal: Posted via Mobile Device Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: my 50 build... why not?
Very nice work!! Do you have a compressor? What size?

Re: my 50 build... why not?
Thank you guys!
Superfly, I'm sorry things haven't worked to get your cab down here. Maybe when things quit being hectic around here. Jeffrow, yes I have a 60 gallon compressor. I got it new from max tool out of California shipped for free. For the price and what it puts out in CFM, it is the best one you can get. And it's all made in the USA. It's a BelAir compressor. 19.5 CFM, dual stage compressor. It just barely keeps up running a da sander for 10 minutes straight but I'm going to be hooking up a 100 gallon helper tank just so I can work till the compressor kicks in, then when it builds up again, I should have a good 5 minutes of sanding without the pump kicking back on. Re: my 50 build... why not?

when i back to the 50s i want to go, |
Re: my 50 build... why not?
Next weekend. We will be up there the 21st through the 23rd. No pickup unfortunately.
Glad to hear progress is moving forward with his cab. Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: my 50 build... why not?
Picked up another pickup just for the inner fenders and a running board brace. Anyone need a parts truck? Cab is fairly solid. Needs cowls, cab corners and a few dents. Firewall, kick panels, and floor are extremely solid. Doors have a bent edge, but super clean and rust free.
I got what I needed off it. Hope to keep it out of the scrap yard. http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps6bc6192c.jpg http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q...psb0663718.jpg http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps4bf6a0f1.jpg http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps6b9f6e4f.jpg http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps3231da5c.jpg http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps5d346758.jpg Posted via Mobile Device Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: my 50 build... why not?
It's gone! Sorry Jamie, a guy got it this afternoon for 500 bucks. I couldn't pass that up. I only paid 250. Lol.

Re: my 50 build... why not?
250 is a steal, I'd buy that all day for 500

Re: my 50 build... why not?
This weekend I got the seat and seat frames mounted, and I got the firewall to booster braket done. I used the original cowl vent brace that I trimmed up to fit. I don't think it could be any more perfect of a fit. I'm able to only get 2 clicks out of it though. It should move plenty of air even at the 2 clicks.
http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps46e2313d.jpg http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q...psc1a0b1a4.jpg http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q...psfdfb447f.jpg http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps14a9fd2c.jpg http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps1c217ddd.jpg http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q...psb20ebea4.jpg Then we started talking about where to mount the battery, so we threw on the box, then got all anxious and put a fender on and rolled it outside. *drool* I think its low enough. Lol. http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps1530ed4d.jpg http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps34f39379.jpg http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps8217e3fc.jpg http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q...psc440d304.jpg Tuesday or Wednesday I should have my gas pedal to get mounted up, then all the interior stuff can be ripped out. Then i sand the inside and spray lizard skin. Then put it all back in and run the brakes. Then paint! |
Re: my 50 build... why not?
Nebdrummer, it looks great. The stance looks great to. I can not wait to see the whole thing painted.

Re: my 50 build... why not?
yeah looks great, glad to see you keeping the vent, I love the little things like that which keeps the trucks originality. Such an awesome way to stay cool back then and even to this day.
|
Re: my 50 build... why not?
Nice work, trucks looking great.

Re: my 50 build... why not?
If the rest of the paint looks anything like that fender, it'll be gorgeous.
|
Re: my 50 build... why not?
Thanks guys!
Got the gas pedal mounted. I'm giving the good old panel binder a shot so I don't have bolts through the firewall. Cut a 1x1 piece of tubing in half. Glued one half to the floor, then bolted the other half to it. This also makes it easy to move the pedal for unknown reasons if need be down the road. http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps06c48530.jpg http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q...psfb0bf8a4.jpg http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q...psb74dc2fc.jpg Lizard skin sprayed! http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps0fc39995.jpg http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps9e081a9f.jpg http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps31d353e6.jpg http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps37453a40.jpg http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps40e3c75c.jpg http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps6c95d032.jpg Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: my 50 build... why not?
looks great, I like the lizard skin. whats that seam sealer you used in the cab. I've seen alot of people use that but never knew what is really was or what brand. I'm assuming its kinda like a weld sealer?
|
Re: my 50 build... why not?
Thanks. It's a direct to metal two part seam sealer.. Either 3m or ever coat. I can't remember which one right off hand.

Re: my 50 build... why not?
Paint is on! Clear coat is going on right now.
