Thank You 62barnfind. I debated myself for a long time. The truck actually set at a body shop for 5 months waiting for its turn while I was debating. Finally decided to bring it home and do it myself. So glad I did!!

Subscribed....My son and I painted our truck with Rustoleum 2x in a dark satin red with the traditional white top. I did this knowing it would fade out evenly to look old but after reading this post I am tempted to start scuffing up and assisting in the aging process. The truck was originally white and had a red and then a blue paint job on top of that. We used flat black primer over that then the current satin red paint. Hummm so tempted!

Truck is finally together. Still gonna fine tune a few areas that I think can be better. Raining and nasty weather here. Hopefully get some outside shots soon.

Re: faux-tina paint jobs

Your fauxtina paint job turned out pretty damn nice. I'm doing a similar paint job on my 56 shop truck build in a couple months. The way I'm doing mine only has a couple minor differences. I'll be spraying the entire body in black epoxy primer to seal and protect the metal and then spray some hot rod flats paint over top and sanding through. The spots where I want to sand will be lightly sprayed so I can age the paint to look more natural.

It's a great effect that anyone could pull off in their own garage in a weekend, I love it

First crack at fauxtina. I have three hours into the paint job. Still needs some scotch brite work done.

I've been considering this for some time. The existing paint is an old job - apparently 15 years or so. There are a couple of blisters that need fixing, and a couple of scrapes. It's burgundy with a wee bit of flake in it, but when I removed the bed we found the original orangey-red underneath. I'm considering seeing how the burgundy looks with the red poking through. Worst-case scenario is that it will need a respray, but it needs that now, so nothing ventured, nothing gained. Reading through this post is very helpful :)

How well does this protect the truck from rust/etc? I wouldnt mind doing this to my primered truck but not if it is going to rust out underneath...

This truck was aged naturally in the harsh AZ sun. The only faux part are the signs on the doors that were painted and aged to match the rest of the truck a month ago. Thank you AZ!

No.
That is the great work of Street Machinery.
I follow them on Facebook.
This car hit a deer and took a high hit on the front end.

They restored it with the new "patina look".
I think it's on ebay now.
Very high dollar built car.
