Now the bottom side, stock has more clearance for the driveline. About 2 inches.

So, I pulled the entire crossmember, first to pull out that angle iron that the PO welded in. And since I now have it out, I can bolt it back in, upside down if you will. This will give me more driveline clearance on the top side of the crossmember. And since I have dropped the rear end four inches, it should be better for driveline clearance. Make sense?? If it doesn't work out, I can flip it back over without much work.

So I have been working a ton, and saving some money so I could get a new rear end as mine will not work. So I called Moser today, and they told me that they couldn't make a rear end that would work with my disc brakes. I called a local company, pretty much the same thing. So I was pretty bummed out.

I happened to check out craigslist today..... JACKPOT!!!!

12 Bolt, trailing arm suspension and 30 Spline!!!

After a little cleaning, it's ready to go to the machine shop to get checked out, new bearings and posi unit!

And it has 3.73 gears already.

So we had a very productive day... Started off with the brake booster and master cylinder. That's my son helping out.

And then I added the disc brakes. Here is where I ran into some problems. The brake pads, when installed on the caliper, with the caliper piston all the way back, will not fit over the rotor. It's almost like they have too much pad. So my easy solution is too sand them down just a fraction so they will fit. I also have a small problem with a spacer on the caliper bracket that is about a 16th too wide. Doesn't give any play to the caliper. So I will have to get those machined down a little.

Otherwise, it was a very productive day!

So these seats are out of an 02 silverado. I found a pair just like them out of an 01 silverado, but powered. So this should be the style but in grey.

Ok fellas. I need some advice. If you look at this picture, you can see that the caliper is right against the mounting bracket.

To me, the passenger side, with the slight gap, looks like the caliper will have room to "float" like it is supposed too.

I contacted the shop that sold me the kit, and EVERYTHING else, bolted right on. They said that if the caliper rides against the bracket, no worries.

What is everyone's thoughts??

If you look at the pictures, you will see a spacer that is welded to the mounting bracket. I can take the brackets to a machine shop and have them machined so the caliper mounting bracket sits closer to the axles flange. But I am not sure if I should.

The caliper floats on that little spacer so I think you should be ok. you may even be able to pull/pry the caliper out a little so it matches the other side. If you pull the calipers back off you can measure the spacers on each caliper to make sure they are the same size. If I remember correctly when you apply the brakes the piston pushes the inner pad out which in turn pulls the caliper and the outer pad inward away from the bracket. But then again I could be completely wrong.

Can you get the outside pad on? If so, once the piston pushes the inside pad towards the rotor, the caliper will move slightly towards the inside, away from the bracket, as creep said.

According to the guy that I talked too, he thinks that the piston may not be in all the way. It apparently takes a special tool to turn it back in. So I will take it apart and see if that is the case. The other alternative is to get thinner pads.

Does anyone have a picture of the stock clutch bell crank attached to a V8??? Since I went from a 292, too this slightly larger motor :) I don't know how to attach my clutch to the motor. Help please...

There should be a hole just above the oil filter where the stud goes in.

That's not my block, just an archived pic I had. Some have the provision and some have to be tapped though. If it needs to be tapped, there should be a flat place for it on the block.
