Well, I had some time last evening before the Brad Paisley concert to get the headliner material placed. I went out this morning and trimmed the visor and interior light holes and got the headliner installed. It looks like new! I’m really very pleased with how it turned out!
Another big shout out to Tina (aka TKCR) for the help & motivation to tackle this, as interior work is not my favorite. |
Re: 1987 R10...aka Belushi
Now all I’ve got left to do is clean, detail and such under the hood. Then I’ll either drive it or sell it for the next one...

Re: 1987 R10...aka Belushi
I vacuumed down the a/c in the truck to check for leaks etc. it just didn't blow very cold. I only recovered about 14 oz of Freon. So I pulled the vacuum and let it sit for 2 hours with no leak, so I put 3.2 lbs of 134a back in it and now it's ice cold!!!
Belushi was already 134. So, I guess when they did the motor they did the retrofit for 134 at the same time. Everything but the actual compressor looks new. |

I got a wild hair and decided I was going to get these old Boss 338’s I had on this truck. These are 1st gen 338’s, so they don’t like HD brakes, which I have. So I did some machine work on the rotor hats/hubs so they’d fit and here’s how she sits this morning. Pardon the filth, but I finished this up at Dark-Thirty last night, so he needs a bath.
I drove it the 40 miles to work this morning, with the windows up and the a/c on and it was wonderful. I could here the radio without issue and I swear, there’s no vent window wind noise at ALL. It was amazing. This thing just keeps getting better. |

I’ve also been jawing back and forth with my buddy Chad (aka CC69Rat) about the Silverado trim and I think that’ll be next. Also maybe a two-tone scheme?

Re: 1987 R10...aka Belushi
Looks much better! the wild hair usually equates to magic! I get them all the time and its like the heavens open and the sound of angels singing. I like the two-tone idea too!

I love the Two-Tones, that would look awesome!
BTW Carter, remember when we were discussing waiting on our replacement seat covers, because of damage. Well mine finally showed up today! 😳 |
Re: 1987 R10...aka Belushi
Those wheels look great on the truck. Nice work on getting your AC sorted out. It's always cool when these old trucks respond well to a little bit of upkeep and maintenance.

I gave Belushi a quick bath tonight when I got home and shot a couple better pics with the 338's.
Oh, and just to prove the ole 383 TBI has some PowaH :metal: |
Re: 1987 R10...aka Belushi
Looks great after a bath Carter...that 2tone with gray is very nice..!!
|
Re: 1987 R10...aka Belushi
Like the others, I can't deny the eye grabbing ability of that two-tone, but I do really like the clean simplicity of your truck the way it is. I wouldn't hesitate at all to run it like it is forever. Especially with the condition of the existing paint.

I drove it to a car show Saturday night and had a blast answering questions about it. And I drove it to work again today and it’s a pleasure to drive.

I had a belt ‘chirp’ while the engine was cold, so when I got home tonight I checked all the new belts and sure enough, the a/c belt was a tad loose. Tighten it up a bit and all should be well.
I also got an intake ‘elbow’ from a board member on here, but it turned out to be the wrong application for the ‘87. He sent me the rest of the ‘89 parts and I got it installed, but I don’t think I’ll keep it. I really want the correct one for the ‘87. |

I finally got the correct elbow and fitted it. One more item checked off the list! I know it looks the same, but this one fits correctly.

Re: 1987 R10...aka Belushi
Getting nitpicky?....Haha..99% of the people looking wouldnt know the diff....looks great though ...

That nitpicky is relatively common for me. If I know it’s wrong, it’ll drive me nutz. As I get older, it gets worse too. :) |
Re: 1987 R10...aka Belushi
They make medicine for that ..haha
But I know...theres some little things that drives me nuts to |

Nothing really happening here anymore, but I did upgrade/repair my sliding back glass lock. The one in the truck when I got it was broken so I bought the standard plastic Dorman replacement part from the local parts store. Went on fine and seemed to fit the bill, but I was out driving the truck last Sunday and noticed in the rearview mirror that the window was slightly open. Somehow the POS Dorman piece had broken...I never touched it after I installed it and it broke. So, I went in search of a metal replacement. Didn’t take long and I found one. So here are some pics and it does seem to be a much better option.
