Turns out the intake manifold face stood above the exhaust manifold face by a fair amount. The bolts bonding the manifolds together were NOT coming out without a fight (that I did not want to lose), so I applied a little redneck machine shop skills and brought out the belt sander to even the faces out. Lots of steel dust later I had a fairly consistent face ready to reinstall.

This is all temporary as it's all going away in favor of a more modern setup as soon as I can get parts ordered.

Finishing up the install after work today, hope to have her back on the road by dinner time.

Is the engine new/recently rebuilt? If not, I really hope that you put new freeze plugs in the head.

The head was recently rebuilt, so new freeze plugs are assumed.

Excellent! I hate to see a leak right after doing a job like that.

Picked up a very nice cherry picker last night to assist with the '72 front end swap. No Origami folding monkeys here...this thing is substantial.

I had a guy offer to rent it from me on the drive home...makes it an even better investment!

Dash is in. Now all that is left is the rest. wiring is not something I have experience in so it takes a lot longer than I would like.

Picked up the front end from a 72 C10, with torsion bar. Looks like plenty of life left in those rotors, had factory AC/Delco shocks on it so maybe low miles. Gets a power wash this morning and start pulling it apart.

Also scored a nice collapsible tilt-column out of a 67 Riviera with a floor shifter. Was a good day for parts. :)

Torsion bar? Looks like coils to me. Do you mean sway bar?

Yeah, I think he meant sway bar. But technically the sway bar works under torsion. :)

Installed Hood Brace Pad kit, adding a little quiet to the rolling oil drum.

Took a flat screwdriver to the front end yesterday, scraped a couple decades of mud and gook off the thing, then turned the power washer loose on it. Next is to pull the calipers and rotors and start ordering parts. All the steering joints feel solid and move free, all rubber is intact, ball joints feel pretty good too, but need to pull it apart anyway.
