Jim-

I hope you feel better soon. I too have had some medical issues in 17' that I'm working through that have kept me out of the garage. I feel your pain (figuratively of course).

The truck isn't going anywhere. It will be ready when you are.

As other have said rest up.

Marc

Re: My 50 roadster pickup build

Hey everyone, well it's been 3 months since I've been layed up. Time for a little update.

After 4 sets of X-rays, 2 MRI's, blood work, etc., I've got a few answers. Shooting pains going down my left leg was from inflammation pinching off my root nerve to the left side. It was pinched between L4 and L5 in the lower back. Inflammation was cause by Sciatica, piriformis muscles and bursitis in the hip, that flared up at the same time (go figure).

Had to use a walker for about 6 or 7 weeks, then to a cane. Still using the cane a little. For what reason we don't know, but I've lost a lot of strength in my left leg. I've got leg and back exercises I do everyday.

My back doctor said my back looked the same as when I had back surgery in 2015, so no need for surgery. He said for a 72 year old guy, my back was in good shape.

One thing I've learned through all this, is I know more about this area that I did. A search on the inter-net shows pics of everything that the doctors said went wrong. I've also learned to pace myself, can't do things like I did when I was 50, or late 60's either.

Haven't touched the truck since this started, but hope to get to do some small things a little at a time. Keep you posted...Jim

Good to hear you’re on the mend! Take your time and let it get healed well so it doesn’t get aggravated again and you’ll be back on the truck soon.

my foggy memory did not remember you tore it apart again jim, seems like you were just driving it again.

so while I suffer from foot-in-mouth disease, you rest up! I learned a long time ago that pushing only costs the pusher!

Well gang, I'm back to give a little update. I'm doing real good health wise right now. Back in late May I started to work in the shop. I tried to do a little each day, and have done pretty good so far. I also try to stay out of Marks way. A BIG THANKS to my son Mark, for pushing me to get back at it. He also did some work on the parts also. So I've got some pics to post along with what was done, some are out of order date wise, but make it easy to explain.

Pic 1 The latch panel, was taken down to bare metal, do to some cracks showing up after driving the truck in primer. Here it is in white epoxy primer.

Pic 2 Here it is after Mark done some little filler work and primed a couple times in high build. It's now ready for paint.

We have got the hood, front fenders, inner fender, left door sanded down with 320 paper, next will be to sand with 600 wet, then it's ready for paint.

Pic 1 Hood

Pic 2 Left front fender.

Pic 3 Right front fender, had to take part of this down to bare metal, do to finding cracked paint from the wreck, that was not caught before.

On Saturday 7-7, Mark came out to paint the back sides of the left front fender and the inner fender. I had them all prepped. The paint came out nice, and it matches great with some of the old parts.

Next five pics are of the parts.

My plan is to get any primer parts in 2 coats of new teal paint, wet sand with 600 wet paper, so that everything is the same hue, just before applying the final paint.

Will update as we get more done...Jim
