Today i fitted the 4x4 and started placement of the hitch. I need to go buy more clamps I see. This is just close. I will remove it and prep the frame before final fitting.

I also dug my air bags out. I've had these for a while and I almost lost them............... My storage building is getting infested with ground hogs. Those little SOB's have the dirt floor all sorts of rearranged. To the point that one of the air bags is missing. I had a box of 4 sitting on the floor, now, there is no box and 3 air bags. I'll be getting the shovel and pistol out this weekend........................

Needs a little cleaning.

That's ok, I know where to get more as I'll need 2 tanks for my setup...

Yeah, I don't even know for sure if the PITA's are ground hogs. I just know the Farmall H sitting in there has 2' of dirt piled up next to the RH tire. These sob's are going to get introduced to some type of liquid here shortly if I can find an entry or exit................................

Yeah, yeah, I'll paint it when the time's right.

Want me to bring a couple "evil rifles" up there? We could declare war on those ground hogs!

I'm just going to be doing air horns on the 96 Dodge. And if we end up getting the "new" truck for the gf, it will end up with air horns and more than likely air ride as it sits on 19.5s... But both of those trucks will have 2 34"*8" air tanks. May have to invest in a few Viair compressors.

sounds like you might need a few. have you looked at oasis compressors? they aint cheap but they make a lot of air.

I just looked at their site. Holy crap, $1500 for the "cheap" unit lol. I was/am looking at the Viair 450C IG's. I don't really need it to run air tools, just want a good bit of volume for the horns. And since I have access to the air tanks at a reasonable price, my main issue will be where to mount the tanks.

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion

i seen some engine driven aircon compressors that could be adapted to move air
they where mounted on some types of the older type of volvo's the one you need is selflubricating , it might be a nice add on and have one electric compressor for when the engine doesnt run
maibe a semitruck type engine compressor would work too DAF did fut those to cummins motors and im sure petebilt and others did too

Cummins offers them too, but I refuse to lose my vacuum pump and have to re-engineer my power steering. I know I'm not after a compressor to do service work on the side of the road, the initial fill will be the largest load on the compressor and if I would have to install two on the Mega, it would still be cheaper than an engine mounted compressor or the Oasis. Granted both of those are more efficient than the Viairs.

Just take out one of your injectors and run an air line from there! :D

Would work better if I took two out so engine still stayed in balance for firing order lol

Thats my debacle. do all the work to run the engine driven, or buy the good electric. im still not decided. if you or your brother dont find me an engine driven by the time i need one, ill probably go electric. and if i can manage it, im getting the oasis. i want to be able to run pit at the derby in style! now, what can i sell...

Don't they make pto driven compressors also?

I can find the engine driven but the price will be close to the Oasis... Found a Cummins part number since I'm bored at work...3558002:$1515.57 Retail price through work...

One thing to keep in mind with the Oasis is the 180ish-200A draw for the lighter duty unit. If you are not mounting it close to the batteries the voltage drop alone will shorten the motor life dramatically. That's the reason I went with an Extreme Outback compresssor. 100% duty cycle and a whole lot less amp draw. Yes, it puts out less air too, but I'm not running air tools on a regular basis off of my truck so that's not a major concern.

Do you have room for a York?? Hell, Autoworld probably has a bolt-on bracket for it. Bang for the buck, it can't be beat. I did not have room or I'd have one on my truck. I was even trying to engineer a pto driven setup that used a York compressor to get it out of the engine compartment, but the time came that I needed OBA and I wasn't far enough along in the engineering process to make it a feasible option so I went electric. A York with a tank on it would allow you to get rid of your shop compressor. LOL.

Damn! ill hope for used. at that price i think id rather the ease of the oasis

I have a IH 466 belt driven 2 piston tumor you could bolt to the side...

I can keep an eye out for one (any) if you guys keep an eye out for a 4BT saginaw pump for me.
