Re: My Unexpected '66 SWB-Fleet-Restomod Project!
Thanks guys!
I don't think that I'm asking for much, I just want this thing to be perfect. I will settle for a little less if I have to, but when I'm working on this truck I can't shut it off! I don't know when anything is "good enough"...I can tell when my dad say's "who's gonna see or notice THAT! MY BIG CHARACTER FLAW. I just want to wind up with something super-special, and not ever think in the back of my mind "I wish that I would have did this differently". |
Re: My Unexpected '66 SWB-Fleet-Restomod Project!

Your hood really does look great man....
I think I am going to get a GMC hood in the next week or so. I need to start collecting all the junk yard items I want for the winter, already dipping below freezing here (was 29* yesterday morning). I bet you are crusing in yours before I am in mine !!! |

It seems that the PO had little or no bodywork experience, and now I KNOW that it was done right!...Speaking of right, your build is looking sooooo right! Keep at it! |

Happy belated Birthday! Thanks for the comments, I can't wait to get some paint on this thing! Thinking of going with current model Corvette Jet-stream blue with silver roof & interior. I may start spraying the bottom of the cab, door jambs, & interior pretty soon. I'm pretty stoked! We're trying to get a plan of attack together, as it is gonna take some floor space to paint the entire exterior at once, but separately. Are you kidding me? 29 degrees? Last weekend it went into the 60's here, and it felt like freezing to me! |
Re: My Unexpected '66 SWB-Fleet-Restomod Project!
I like your bodywork talent, patience & persistence = very nice work. I'm subscribed to your project....Vernski:metal:

Through all of this, I totally forgot about doing anything with my door panels.
So today I hunted them down in all the boxes of stuff that I have, and decided to work them over. Today's project: window crank delete! I decided that the first step to power windows was getting rid of the window crank! Heres some pics! And the best thing about this job? It took only 3 hours, start to finish...Watching primer dry, and paint gun cleaned! Attachment 985216 Attachment 985217 Attachment 985218 Attachment 985224 Attachment 985225 |

And more pics of the process...Even had some time to work on my front bumper...Notice the lack of bumper bolts & license plate holes?

I really do appreciate the comments. And Flips, Don't sell yourself short, I'm gonna have a hard time getting to the stage that you are at right now! Already second guessing on going with a with RED instead of a metallic tri-coat after seeing how great that your truck rocks-it! That would allow me to paint it in pieces!...I would be half-done with the paint-work by now, and into assembly! Your truck is really turning out sweet! |

I received my "Direct bolt-in" power window kit this week...Yeah, right. It is only direct bolt-in after you drill several holes in your door that will be exposed when the job is completed. I am NOT good with that.
After a great deal of pondering on the issue. I decided to make an adapter plate to mount the power-window mechanism to, and in-turn, mount that plate to the door in areas that would be concealed by the door-panel. I used two of the door-panel holes as a reference in my adapter plate, to get everything into the proper location, as they did in the installation instructions. Here are some pics of what I came-up with. As you can see by the instruction sheet, a good deal of measuring was done to accomplish this! |

I also bought a really set of nice billet illuminated power-window switches, which I fitted into my door-panels.
I looks really slick!... Things are really beginning to take shape! |
Re: My Unexpected '66 SWB-Fleet-Restomod Project!
Great heads up. I have been kickin around the idea of power windows too. You always pull it off so nicely when an obstacle gets in the way.
