I think I'm ready to drop in the motor. Everything is buttoned up and ready. Touched up the paint, installed the heater hose fittings, cleaned up the routing of the wires, and bolted on the clutch. Wonder if it would fit in the back of my Tahoe...

Also put in a new temp sensor and spark plugs-gapped to the HEI friendly 0.045.

Still got a couple of inches to go. Hard time getting the shaft to align through the clutch. Can't quite get the angle to the dangle.

Nice job. You'll have it on the road again in no time.

Soon, I'll have this truck motorin' down the road. But probably not in the next two weeks because work and a Vegas trip next weekend.

I learned today that moving a cherry picker around on a gravel surface sucks. If I ever do this again, it will be in my own damn garage.

Re: Project Coca-Rustola: '67 C20 Longstepper

If your garage has a tall enough ceiling... Driveway works.

Did you get the input shaft to align yet? There is an alignment shaft you can rent from the auto parts stores when installong the cluthc and pressure plate, don't know if you used one or not. Sometimes the input splines are just needing to be rotated a smidge by wiggling the tranny and it drops home.

Anyway nice progress!

Yep, the clutch kit I bought came with an alignment tool. I know I'm close. Just need the right wiggle to get it home, but ran out of time yesterday.

Rich, I used starter bolts to pull the transmission in.

you need to be really careful doing that, if you damage the splines on the input shaft, the clutch will not slide freely, then your pulling it back apart and replacing parts.

Thanks. I'm sitting here fantasizing about it rumbling down the road with new dual exhaust and new wheels and tires.

Got the engine and tranny fully mated together today. Also put the starter and exhaust manifolds on And got the bell crank re-attached to the block. Just got to get the carb on, run the HEI power wire, clean the gas tank, reinstall the radiator, bolt up the exhaust, and...

LIGHT THE FIRES, BABY! VROOOMMM!

Made some progress today while playing hookie from work( shhh, don't tell anyone). Wrapping up the engine compartment and installing a new gas tank. Had a lot more gas in the old tank than I thought. Made it tough to get the tank out of there.

Got the truck insured and ready to register with the DMV. Thanks to Hagerty. Surprisingly low annual premium. Very happy.

If it was legal in the State of California to throw the kids in the bed and take them to school, I'd do it. And if my wife would let me.

Re: Project Coca-Rustola: '67 C20 Longstepper

Almost ready to fire it up. Ran my new HEI power wire from the firewall block, routed my new front light harness, and bolted up the exhaust. Just a few more things to do:
Make up new throttle linkage;
Install new voltage regulator;
Install new choke cable;
Fill the fluids; and,
Put some fresh gas in the new tank.

Once its running, off to the shop for some new wheels and tires, and new dual exhaust.
