Re: Dunce's 59 Fleetside build
Dunce what wheels r u running? And what/where did u get the rag joint for the camaro steering box? Thanks
|
Re: Dunce's 59 Fleetside build
Those are MB "Old School" wheels. Decently priced and I love the look. The rag joint is from Ididit part# IDT-3000055231 at Summit Racing. They make a unjoint with dampening too but it was a little pricey so I went with the rag joint.

Re: Dunce's 59 Fleetside build
So here's a little update...
-got my ride hieght figured out so I can check for tire clearance. 285/40/17 on the back with 5.5 backspace. its tight on the wheel tub - may have to widen those just a touch. Determined I can get by with a small c notch in the frame to go as low as I want. Front rocker about 6 inches with about 1 to 1.5 inches of rake front to back. Front tires will be 255/40/17 with 4.7 backspace. They just barely touch the fat sway bar at full lock so I'm good there and the fender lips see to have enough clearance. If not a small roll of the lips should be sufficient. -Finished my trans tunnel. Made it just high enough to clear the shifter mechanisms and used the factor floor piece so I can remove it if needed. The firewall section is now flanged with screws so it locks down tight there too. Started the C-notch. mine is a bit unorthodox, but what the hell. Should hold fine. 1x2 tubing on top, 3/16 plate for the notch and boxing around the notch. Then 1/8 plate everywhere else. -test fit ac compressor from vintage air with Qwik performance high mount bracket. http://i283.photobucket.com/albums/k...415_232943.jpg http://i283.photobucket.com/albums/k...412_142139.jpg http://i283.photobucket.com/albums/k...412_143957.jpg http://i283.photobucket.com/albums/k...412_171654.jpg http://i283.photobucket.com/albums/k...412_171717.jpg http://i283.photobucket.com/albums/k...414_235623.jpg http://i283.photobucket.com/albums/k...415_215343.jpg http://i283.photobucket.com/albums/k...415_225830.jpg http://i283.photobucket.com/albums/k...415_225855.jpg http://i283.photobucket.com/albums/k...415_232929.jpg http://i283.photobucket.com/albums/k...416_191824.jpg http://i283.photobucket.com/albums/k...416_191838.jpg http://i283.photobucket.com/albums/k...416_191852.jpg http://i283.photobucket.com/albums/k...416_225058.jpg http://i283.photobucket.com/albums/k...416_230255.jpg - |

Re: Dunce's 59 Fleetside build
-Finished the rear frame section, painted the rear end and reinstalled.
-started on exhaust. I have some shorty headers into 2.5 inch flowmaster u fit system. -notched the crossmember for driveshaft clearance -filled holes I don't need in the driver toeboard -battery box mock up. using bolts through the frame. Don't think I need a drop out box but I may create an access door through the step in the cab.. not sure yet though. Now its time to get serious. On the downhill slide for sure now. Won't be long and I'll be working on getting this sucker running : ) http://i283.photobucket.com/albums/k...421_225526.jpg http://i283.photobucket.com/albums/k...422_230411.jpg http://i283.photobucket.com/albums/k...426_182419.jpg http://i283.photobucket.com/albums/k...426_182839.jpg http://i283.photobucket.com/albums/k...428_200925.jpg http://i283.photobucket.com/albums/k...429_205253.jpg http://i283.photobucket.com/albums/k...429_213453.jpg http://i283.photobucket.com/albums/k...429_232828.jpg http://i283.photobucket.com/albums/k...429_232840.jpg http://i283.photobucket.com/albums/k...429_232858.jpg |

Re: Dunce's 59 Fleetside build
Well here we go. Another update..
-I had bought some repop kick panels. Decides to mount my speakers there so added some material to them and modified the vent holes just slightly to fit some 6.5 inch speakers in the same location on each side. I think its gunna look pretty clean. -Primed and seam sealed the inside of my firewall -Bought a set of 3 point belts from Julianos and found a way to get a mounting point in my big window cab. Sliced open the pillar, welded in the slightly modified bracket and then welded the the sheet metal back over the bracket and it looks like it was always there. -Got my exhaust routing figured out. Up and over the axle, down and out around the tank and through the roll pan with some rectangular exhaust tips. I'm stoked with how that turned out. -fuel tank/pump/ wired and plumbed -rear brake lines done http://i283.photobucket.com/albums/k...504_213217.jpg http://i283.photobucket.com/albums/k...504_213234.jpg http://i283.photobucket.com/albums/k...504_230719.jpg http://i283.photobucket.com/albums/k...505_211118.jpg http://i283.photobucket.com/albums/k...505_215613.jpg http://i283.photobucket.com/albums/k...506_222607.jpg http://i283.photobucket.com/albums/k...506_222709.jpg http://i283.photobucket.com/albums/k...507_215554.jpg http://i283.photobucket.com/albums/k...509_160046.jpg http://i283.photobucket.com/albums/k...509_172922.jpg http://i283.photobucket.com/albums/k...511_215454.jpg http://i283.photobucket.com/albums/k...511_215931.jpg http://i283.photobucket.com/albums/k...513_234033.jpg |

Re: Dunce's 59 Fleetside build
You're doing a mighty fine job!!
One question: The exhaust outlets in the rollpan, doesn't those vibrate so much that they hit the pan? Just curious... |
Re: Dunce's 59 Fleetside build
Dunno yet but I did consider that so I built something to surround the exhaust tips where they go through the roll pan. So I basically have some air gap with rubber bumpers between the tips and the pan. Hoping that will contain any rattles. I figured that plus the placement/stiffness of the exhaust hangers should keep things under control. Guess we'll see once I get a fire lit in those cylinders ; ).
I should have looked at some newer vehicles with that style exit and see how they are doing it. I'll bet a hanger or mount right before the tip would take care of it as long as you have enough gap. Quote:

Re: Dunce's 59 Fleetside build
The ring mounts to the roll pan and has split rubber hose around the edge to keep the exhaust tip from rattling against the roll pan.
