Re: Things that annoy: "AC Works, but"

Completely redone frame up!! ESPECIALLY on unibody's. My son recently wanted another car. He was looking for something turbo and awd. Found a pretty nice little WRX Sti not too far away. Seller and his buddy buy them and fix them up to resell. Sounded great, pics of the engine out and all apart for new bearings, valve job, clutch, etc. Interior was good, had new paint that looked new but still needed a cut-n-buff.....seller wanted to wait a couple months for the clear to get good and hard. Overall, looked like a good buy. My son was ready to go get it, I told him to ask specific questions about tires, brakes, steering, etc. Basically is it ready to be put to daily driver duties. Well......brakes are about shot, feels like it has a warped rotor, front struts need replaced, will need tires and an alignment, oh......and the steering rack is worn out and leaks some fluid...!!!!! WHAT PART of completely redone am I not understanding here??? My son ended up with a nice clean local 300c with a HEMI.

No. Low miles are low miles. Yes 200,000 miles on a 40 yr old vehicle means it was only driven 5k per year, but its not LOW MILES.

:haha:

People who sell a completely disassembled vehicle but the ad says that "It runs great!".
Same people as above who only post pictures of their disassembled vehicle when it was all together.

As mentioned before, I see a lot of these for sale that need the rockers and cab corners replaced. The sellers will state they have the new parts to do the repairs and they will go with the truck. So why not weld them in and ask for more money?

Holy mackerel! I saw this one on Dregslist, and HAD to share it!

1971 Chevy Dump Truck. The truck was working when the engine went out. Needs an engine, tags are current. This would make a great farm truck, or small project truck.

"Was working when the engine was taken out" (What a relief! I thought that disembodied engine would NEVER run, wherever the Hell it is now. Knowing that this now-gone engine is running somewhere has made my day!)

"Needs an engine" (Wow! Golly! Gee! THAT never would have occurred to me! It can be used as a horse cart.)

"Would make a great ... small project truck" (A huge 1971 dump truck will make a SMALL project truck?!?!)

"Tags are current" (Nice! These will come in handy sitting in the yard with no engine!! FANTASTIC decorations!!)

When I see this in the ad, I know it's a true low mileage vehicle being sold by an honest person.... Instant buy! The problem is people stopped using this in ads, I must be getting old! :mm:

I had a '77 Ford LTD that was given to us by my wife's true "old south" godmother. She only drove it to the grocery store, church, and the liquor store (the list is in increasing order of priority).

I would have loved to use that in an ad.

Something I have found really irritating lately is on c10/c10 parts for sale groups on facebook...

Seller will post something for sale, within an hour, someone will post "is this still available"

I see it so much I started wondering if this was some kind of joke I wasn't in on.

"Dregslist". My son was selling an aquarium a few years ago. 80 gallons, comes with stand, pump, etc. EVERY CALL- "how big is it? Does it come with a stand? is there a pump?", etc. Crazy.

Not quite as crazy but I find it strange when people ask “Where is Simi Valley at?” Like no one has a road atlas or map anymore. Just google it for Pete’s sake

I figure they are talking about the dump was working. Could also take it to be the truck was fully operational, only parked due to the engine blowing. To me this is good information I need to know. Dropping an engine in one of these trucks is a small project and finding used engines for these trucks is about as easy as it can be. Look at all the running engines coming out to swap in LS motors. Even better selection due to that.

I have a 350 on a stand that I pulled from a '71 C/20 in '04 when I parted it out. "Ran great when pulled". I'm the perfect guy for a truck that "Worked before the engine blew". Take that truck that worked when engine went and my engine that worked when the went and I'd have an easy truck
___
Ran when parked is a useful piece of info to me. It means it should only require attention to fuel delivery and ignition, if it won't start with a fresh battery and fuel. It means it wasn't parked because the motor blew up, like above,or the rear didn't lock up, the transmission didn't go out... it wasn't parked due to a mechanical issue. It means if it doesn't run it's only due to being parked. People ask "Why are you selling it" expecting to gain insight from an "honest" seller, but often is their cue to tell a BS story. "Why was it parked?" is a very important question I need answered.

___
The one that gets me is tires have hardly any wear, still has the nubs. Just has these small cracks starting. "That's nice, but I'd rather have barely any tread, nubs long gone, on a tire not about to fling off the rim"

Yep, put a add on craigslist a couple years ago for 2 aluminum dog boxes
1 was a Cabelas the other a DeeZee, both in excellent condition. $150 ea

I posted all the dimensions of both boxes and pictures of all 6 sides of both boxes plus shots of the interiors.

First call: Dis Mario you got the dog kennels for sale?

Me: Yep... but they are boxes not kennels

Mario: Okay what size day are?

Me: Mario the dimensions are in the add but here they are again

Mario: Ok what day made of?

Me: Aluminum Mario it's in the add.

Mario: Ok how much you want

Me: Mario read the add please! ...$150 each

Mario: Ok is dat for one or both kennels?

At this point I'm thinking ok this is someone I know F@#king with me, and this is going to just keep going so I tell Mario to re read the add, decide if he wants 1 or both and call me back and I hung up.

Any way the next caller bought them both.

I still think Mario was someone I know but no ones copping to it.

I could never figure out why people selling a "camero" can never spell it right, despite the fact that there are emblems all over the thing for reference.

dagnabbitt 01-22-2019 06:28 PM

Re: Things that annoy: "AC Works, but"

Ditto the "Camero" comment. I know that not everyone is William Shakespeare, but misspellings are a pain in the butt when you are doing a search. When I dive deep I even have to type "Chervolet" if I want to find what I am looking for.

Personally I get a kick out of people blaming their wife or the "baby on the way" for selling stuff.

One I hate is when searching for a 99-06 Silverado's they all say "rust free" and have the eBay fender flares over them. I have at least looked at 2 or 3 that when you put you hand in the fender they just crunch. I don't even look at trucks with those eBay fender flares anymore.

1988 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible

Car is clean NO RUST ON BODY... doesn’t run or drive.

Really the best thing you have to say is the fiberglass didn’t rust?

One of my sons has a friend who is originally from Colombia. His last name is Camero. People are always telling him it's spelled wrong!

Re: Things that annoy: "AC Works, but"

From another perspective, What really kills me is when a truck was listed on Facebook marketplace an hour ago and the comments are:

Still Available? ( it was posted an hour ago)
Location? ( the zip code is required to post an ad and is right there)
Interested! (The person is across the country)
Trade for a 1995 OBS truck that doesn’t run?
What’s the lowest you’ll go?

This is why I don’t use FB Marketplace.

Re: Things that annoy: "AC Works, but"

A few of my pet-peeves.

"No Tire-Kickers, Serious inquiries only." - Sometimes you want to look at a vehicle you are not familiar with to see if it interests you.

The old finger in front of the license plate. What, are the feds after you?? Remove the plates if you are paranoid.

Crappy, dark pictures or teaser pictures. Let's see the whole vehicle in good outside light. Include all sides, interior and engine at the least. Be ready to email many more pictures upon request. Clean up the vehicle and detail it so we can see it at its best.

Either no description of the vehicle or a 300 page novel description.
