Jocko found us an early build 12/71 "Hidden Highlander" down in TX. A plaid trim upgrade truck it also has a 5-speed conversion too! Be a nice driver with the interior corrected.

Not sure if this is plaid. I bought it used, but plan on recovering it in black. My truck is a 1970 and I believe this seat is a 1972?

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?

That is a replacement seat cover. It could very well be on your original seat/frame. Not a Highlander though.

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?

Its hard not to like a dark blue Highlander. Curously this loaded up Promo Package "C" (YG8) had a base 307 originally. Like many unfortunately the only "Highlander" trim parts left are the seat belts.
Thanks Tony for posting up another "Hidden Highlander" that is why this thread is here.

Tim,

Here was another Dallas area Craigslist Highlander, sorry no picture of the SPID was available. The truck must have sold, I can't seem to locate the add.

Mine is a YG8. Power steering, AC, and power brakes. Have the original seat but it is in pretty bad shape on the drivers side. I also have a picture of the spid but cant get on photobucket here at work.

Yes and the only variable was the plaid itself.

Highlander Plaid trim color breakdown.
All include Black dash pad, steering column (with or without tilt) and carpet. In addition the door panels, visors, console (Blazer only) and seat belts were always Parchment (White). Seat vinyl was also Parchment and the insert color is determined by the specific trim code. So the ONLY variable color keyed component was the plaid insert of Avocado, Blue, Gray or Orange.

Here is a hidden Highlander. Killen some time with the cousins and stopped at a classic car lot. This truck was locked up but it was a Deluxe. Although most of the interior was new, the original door panels stood out. Had to check the SPID to see if it was a original 626(parchment) truck or a Highlander. The dealer came out and let us look at the SPID. Sure enough, 613 Avocado Highlander, and YG8 Special Promotional, Bingo! It was actually quite a thrill finding one like that. Thanks Tim, Great thread!

Very nice find Bruce! I'm guessing you didn't take it home (yet!). Of interest is it has both a cargo lamp and a tool box added to the YG8 list. Well done and exactly the purpose of this thread! Keep looking guys. :-)

I am very intrigued by the Highlander pickups. Will having one ever be as popular as a Cheyenne Super? I know "to each their own", but I really think I need one!

Honestly Coley, how am I suppose to sleep tonight? I want a 1972 C30 to go along with my C10 and C20, and here is one withim driving distance and has a plaid seat! If the timing was just a little different! I knew there was a reason I didn't look at surrounding area craigslist!

Ditto. Sold my 71 cheyenne super custom camper, kept the 72 custom camper yg8... the highlanders are "unique" to say the least

not exactly hidden (it's advertised as a highlander on ebay right now, and it is one - trim truck, no package, very nice shape). Enjoy. Some folks prefer lack of upper belt, but I'm a fan personally. Looks good either way - but certainly less common without it. Non-original wheels and steering wheel, but a pretty darn nice resto. (I DO wish folks wouldn't bedline a resto of this caliber though - a working truck, yep, I get it, but this is a borderline show piece - Ok, back to bitin my tongue - very nice truck)

Yes, Its a 604 trim code Gray Plaid Highlander trim truck.

Up near the begining of this thread it mentions Truckseats sews up the correct style covers and SMS Fabrics has both the plaid cloth and the scroll work insert for the seat center panel.

That insert material now in your seat is a replacement sewn in at some point in its life.

As far as finding an OEM Highlander cover. If there is a factory service replacement cover out there a lot of people are ahead of you on my wanted list. If you look through enough parts for sale ads around the country you might find a used original for sale. In good usable conditon is a different matter. To post up a want to buy ad here you need to become a subscribing member then you can post to the classified section.

Nice example especially for Monaco. That is probably the most correct truck I've seen offered by them. The lack of belt molding really "makes it" to me! The restraint shown with the correct standard markers almost makes up for the added chromed standard rear bumper. No biggie on the Rally wheels, just add a set of P01s and enjoy the wider wheels. Bedliners, I'm with you they tend to detract from a stocker resto like this. But then a white tonneau cover could hide that.

Tim,

That orange truck would have been a nice one, but it was very, VERY rusty.
It was parted and the chassis was used under another truck.

The 1/2 ton highlander was rusty too.

Check out the tailgate!

I believe this maybe another hidden Highlander for sale in the Memphis-North Mississippi area for sale on Craigslist - BTW not mine.

No pictures of the SPID but looks like it's a Custom Deluxe, is advertised as having tilt wheel and has PA1 wheel covers.

Given the stated options plus the observed belt only molding, PA1 wheel covers and the DG4 mirrors I'd agree its a Highlander. Probably a YG8 Promo Package with the 604 gray plaid.
