Not much to report in the way of progress, but I did manage to get all the axles detached from the frame yesterday. The frame is ready to send off to the blaster now!

Any updates?
You've got have come along way!

Thanks! No new progress other than I took the frame down to the blasters on Friday. I'm hoping to have it back late this week or early next week.

Hey, that frame looks great. You going to paint it your self?

mjensen 02-26-2012 11:16 AM

Re: 69 GMC "Ol' Blue"

Thanks!!! Yeah, that's my plan. I'm either going to use the VHT Rollbar and Chassis or Eastwood Extreme Chassis Black. I have to wait for it to warm up around here before I can paint it though.

Re: 69 GMC "Ol' Blue"

Great work! I'm trying to decide if I want to box my frame now before I paint my frame. I can't decide though. I'm leaning towards no since these frames are pretty tough any way. Keep up the good work!

mjensen 02-26-2012 11:43 AM

Re: 69 GMC "Ol' Blue"

Thanks! Yeah, if I decided to box my frame, that would probably add another 20 yrs onto my build

Not much in the way of progress today. I did clean up the garage a little so I will actually be able to work on it. I'm going to be calling my local 4 wheel parts tomorrow to see how much their 4" lifts are. I decided to snap a shot while it was in the sunlight :)

Thanks! I know beautiful day right?! We've actually had quite the mild year. You would think I would have actually accomplished more this winter...but I'm motivationally challenged

I did get my lift ordered on Monday though.

Dieselwrencher 02-28-2012 09:41 PM

Re: 69 GMC "Ol' Blue"

It's weird it has been like spring with a few colder than spring days. What lift did you go with?

mjensen 02-28-2012 09:44 PM

Re: 69 GMC "Ol' Blue"

I ended up going with the Tough Country 4" HD all spring lift & Nitro shocks. I have heard a lot of people that are happy with them, and it was a decent price (at least I thought :))

Dieselwrencher 02-28-2012 09:47 PM

Re: 69 GMC "Ol' Blue"

That's what I've been running lately, except the shocks. My plans are to buy them though, for them all soon.

mjensen 02-28-2012 09:51 PM

Re: 69 GMC "Ol' Blue"

I didn't really know what shocks to get, but our local 4 Wheel Parts told me that he thought the Nitros would be a better choice for my 3/4 ton...so, that's what I went with. SDTruckSprings.com actually had a few sales going on including free shipping, so I got it all for just over 1K to my door. Here's hoping :metal:

I was going to actually get something done today, when I realized that I didn't purchase new bushings for the front shackle hangers (I know..you experienced guys are thinking "really?") :) So, I decided to just try and clean up my "new" front axle. Something made me decide to turn the hubs in just for fun, just to find out that the driver's side axle is snapped. DAMN! Oh well, I need to replace the ball joints anyway, so I'll just do that then. Not how I planned for this day to go.

Thanks for looking Rick! Hopefully it will start to get interesting here in the next few weeks :)

Wish I had more time for my build, but everyone elses seem to get in the road of mine, but helps to buy parts for mine and trade a few too, just takes a bit longer, keeps Momma happier, Haha. I will live thru your build for a while.

It wasn't an overly productive day. I did manage to clean a little more of the front axle, and I got the bushings ordered for the Shackle hangers. Next weekend is supposed to be nice, so hopefully I can lay some paint and attach some springs :)

Yesterday, I removed the rear bumper (which was a project in itself). I also fixed a mistake that I made. I'm almost too embarrassed to show this, but here it is :)

Well, not much in the way of progress. I did order the Advanced Adapters Torque Splitter for its overdrive. I figured it was the cheapest way to get overdrive :) I also ordered Eastwood's Extreme Chassis Black. Next week I hope to get moving on some things.

mud.man.rj 04-01-2012 07:57 PM

Re: 69 GMC "Ol' Blue"

When you get and install the torque splitter for overdrive hope you post it as I am interested for my 71 4x4, would be a lot nicer for the highway.

mjensen 04-01-2012 08:07 PM

Re: 69 GMC "Ol' Blue"

I will definitely post my progress on this. Hopefully it will show up in two weeks :) I'm going to try and replace the shift lever with an electric solenoid so that I can simplify the shifting process

I'm actually surprised that I can't find many people on this board that have used this torque splitter.

Well, I was hoping that these pictures would show a painted frame today, but I didn't realize how much work it would be to clean up/smooth out a sandblasted frame.

I was hoping next weekend would work to get the paint on it, but it's supposed to be low 60's (compared to mid 80's this weekend). Oh well, progress is progress :)

Re: 69 GMC "Ol' Blue"

Thank you! I appreciate the encouraging words. I'm hoping that one of these weekends will be nice enough so i can get this frame painted. On another note, my torque splitter is still on backorder.
