hey fellas,
not much happened on tilly this month. got started on bodyworking the hood and installed some pretty trick taillights from a firetruck... i will post a report on that later but for now most of october was spent on sam & kims c-20. the entire body including engine bay was compounded to remove the oxidized paint. then the filler holes from the saddle tanks were patched. and the old bed boards were triple coated with polyurethane then a couple of coats of black wash. |

got the 292 back from the machine shop and put it together.
the repair on the fenders is past the metalwork stage and into bodywork, can't wait to try my hand on matching that old green patina paint. also, well underway on the auto trans conversion but pics on that later. back in a few days... |

hope everybody had a great thanksgiving and ate way too much. me, i fell into a food coma and the NFL knocked me out completely. but in the 2 hour drive there and back i had time to ponder about friends and family... they're the best of all things. and i'm very thankful.
ok, on to the truck stuff. even though this thread is about tilly (c20 utility bed) i seem to be spending more time on sam&kims c20 patina farm truck. we overhauled the 292 and converted to a power glide which was freshly overhauled, switched to an automatic column, changed cross members and installed original power steering components... and attempted to match the original patina. whew, i got tired just typing it...:) |

the patina is still an ongoing challenge and i'm not quite there yet...
shown is a old blue wheel tub which i scuffed up pretty good, wiped down and sprayed with a hand mixed light green. after some tinting and airbrush work the color was close enough to tina-up. the middle pic shows the color change and the further tub shows tina-work... last pic shows the tub stuck back in the bed... |

also mixed up some paint for the front fenders. i had my local paint jobber shoot a pic of the original green and mix a pint. then shot a pic of places that had been washed out by 40 years of sun and weather and mixed a pint. it was amazing how different the 2 colors were and on the same truck. after some tinting and flattening, and spraying a bunch of test strips i laid down the final choice...

finally got some work done on tilly... this is the pre-paint assembly. fitting body parts and gathering hardware.
we located the spotlight... and taillights. relocated the shift hole on the tunnel and raised it up a bit. got everything in primer and ready to tear down and paint. just in time for a huge winter blast, need to batten down and fire up the heaters. lucky to have a heated shop but when i switch on the exhaust fans it gets cold quick. more later, stay warm guys. |

i was messing with tillys ride height and did a little photoshop on it. first off i wanted to raise the bed where it flushes with the bottom of the cab. this also made a nice line from top of bed to the cabs door window. i've been getting some wheels and caps together. the lock-ring 16" wheels (us military) and the cap remake idea from (yelmer). thanks guys. using 31" bias ply www tires and lowering 2" and 4"... |
