Minor surface rust above which window? If it's the front windshield it's probably a lot worse than it looks. On my 61 I had to replace of above the windshield and the inside was a lot worse than you could see from the outside. Each area with surface rust showing a very lite push with a screwdriver or other sharp object would go right through.

Yeah that’s what I’m afraid of. How difficult is it to replace The sheet metal above the windshield?

Re: Post your 60-66 craigslist finds

It's not fun. The outside piece above the windshield is reproduced but mine was about a half inch too narrow. I had to replace the inside panel as well but is not reproduced for 60-63. I used a 64-66 piece that I cut the ends off. It was easier for my truck to have the roof skin off to get to it. Yes you could do it with the roof on. So on my truck it was the piece above the windshield, inside and out and the roof skin. If my truck wasn't a bbw and my grandad's truck I probably would have looked for another cab.

Yeah it doesn’t sound like fun. I can probably pick it up for 11,500. It’sa beautiful truck. DD at that. For the price would it be worth taking the chance of it being worse than expected.

He must be living in the 90's when these things were still affordable.

My truck is an orange and white 1963 Chevy C20 3/4ton with a small block 350 V8 and 4 speed manual transmission. I’ve owned the truck since 2017 and is now running and driving really well. Whoever ends up buying this truck and parts will have everything they need to finish this amazing build. If you think finding a decent survivor pickup is tough, try finding an intact period camper! They are made of flimsy materials and are prone to physical damage, termites, and rot. That camper looks good! I'd grab it if it were near me!

66 GMC short stepside

I'm a 67-72 guy, but just saw this 66 GMC posted local to me on CraigsList so I thought to post for anyone interested.

Ad states it's a California truck, so it may not be the typical East Coast rust nightmare.

 Is there another word for rust?

forestb 08-22-2022 01:23 PM

Re: Post your 60-66 craigslist finds

"basically no rust" Basically could cover a wide spectrum.

oem4me 08-22-2022 06:10 PM

Re: Post your 60-66 craigslist finds

In the ad he states that the truck seems mostly original, with the possible exception of the bucket type seats. If I'm not mistaken, those seats are GMC only option in 66 and fairly rare.
In Cali, that truck has rust. Back east, "it'll probably buff out". Lol!

Rust in lower corners is standard fare, what is not standard fare is the '66 only GMC Sports Trim option and factory power steering. A shortbed stepside '66 GMC "Custom", in of itself, is also not a common find. Has potential.
