Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

Regan, this house thing has turned into a major disaster of epic proportions..
Would have been easier to burn it down and rebuild..
Last week I spent 3 days crawling around under it building new stringers and peirs...the whole floor had dropped down 2-3 inches in the center over a 32 ft span...my knees look like hamburger..
I'm hopefully rounding the corner on it though...started doing some sheetrock repairs.
.with my normal job , it may still take me a couple more months..
I was just telling a buddy of mine the other day that I havnt touched the truck since Thanksgiving..

Me too, I know taking care of your parents is important. But, I miss watching the trucks progress. All in good time though.

Greg, spoke to Dan yesterday. Said he still owes pictures on the fender job, he hadn't posted them as his technical expert (grandson) doesn't stick around long enough to help with pictures when he's back from college... I'll see him later this year at a metalshaping workshop and will retrieve a copy then and will post here for you..

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

Thanks for checking in....
Still no truck work...
but kitchen project is getting close to done...
Working full time and doing all this in my spare time...im ready for it to be over with...
But I've got most of the cabinets built and installed....got one more section of cabinets to go....then there'll be a lot of odd and end stuff to finish up
Working on the island now..doing a butcherblock top on it...having a fit with the spar finish..cant get it to smooth out...I even sanded it back down to raw wood and started over with all new products..its better now, but I'm still a little disappointed with the finish...

TOTALBoat table top epoxy is what you want I tried all kinds of different Varnish’s urethanes when I restored the 57 correct craft It was a little difficult for me and what I was doing but it is perfect for what you are doing it flows out self-leveling it is made for table tops Check it out

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

Thanks nsb....its a total disaster now...the layers of spar started separating when I started sanding it tonite...bout ready to take it to a pro..

watched this one sell on b.a.t. makes feel a little better about how much ive invested in mine.....even if i never plan to sell it...
this one is very similar to what mine will be when finished...

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

Thanks Regan ...
I'm really surprised that truck sold that high...when it started I was guessing around 20k would be it..
it looks well done, but if you know IHs ,its been built with several yr model trucks...
but with no aftermarket support, its be hard to build one original
mine is more yr model complete..even with all I've changed...

I WANT that wheel !

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

im working on one of these too for my wife, but we decided because parts arent eas to get to just dump the body onto a squarebody shortbed frame.. PS if you need a good trans outta a 53, i have one

mongocanfly 05-25-2021 08:40 PM

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

thats a big disadvantage of owning a old IH truck...theres no aftermarket for them...theres a saying in the IH world that if you want to build a IH truck you need at least 5 to build 1
hows the square body fit with the 53?... i think i saw a pic of it you posted one time before

But I've worked 34 12hr days/nights in a row...squeezing in a few minutes here and there on the folks house..and trying to keep up with my stuff...its so close to being done.....still havnt touched the truck since nov.....sighhhhh...I'm ready to finish both projects ...thanks for checking in..
