What's the name of that primer? It looks like the stuff they used on the Powerblock TV show, Musclecar. I like the look of your progress. Keep it up.

It's Z-chrome rust defender. LINK It's a sprayable polyester. It builds really good and sands good too. It's kind of expensive though. around $100 a gallon and it doesn't go very far either. I started using it on the bed so, I'm kinda stuck with using it for the rest of it now. I've already used 3 gallons :(

Ouch! I think that's the stuff they used on the Musclecar show. It looks good though. I bet the end result makes it all worth it in the end.

Everything looks great Mike.. Love the Hot Rod black from Medallion, I might have to pick some of that up myself... Also nice job on the Aluminum welding.. I need to get the gun/gas for my setup. It's on my list of things I want.

Great job, looking good!

Yeah there are several brands out there that make it. I just got this because it was handy.

These fans are from an LS1 Camaro. I think 1999-2003 vintage. They cost $100 if I remember right, My friend Crash_OK picked them up for me in Tulsa. You can probably find them on the LS1-Tech classified section. LINK

More busy work while it's cold.
Blasted a bunch of bolts (cardboard doesn't work). I found some heavy packing foam that works good. I rounded up as many bolts as I had laying around in boxes, so there should be few extras.

I wish I had a smaller blaster just for this... My homemade blaster is way to big and messy for bolts.. Was thinking of getting some of that green crystal rust cutting tumbler media and giving it a go in my tumbler. Have you ever tried that?

They look great by the way! :-)

I haven't tried the tumbler method for rusty bolts yet. I have access to a nice blasting cabinet with fine glass media at work. It works great without damaging the threads.
I also treated the threads with some Casey's bluing like used on gun barrels. It seemed to work okay but, I will oil them up good when I do final assembly.

Thanks, I try to save as much of the old metal as I can. I know aftermarket hardware is really cheap. I have nothing but time on my hands this time of year.....cabin fever sucks, so I use this kind of work for filler. At least it makes me feel like I'm getting stuff done.

Re: 1969 Short Wide

Does anyone know if these bolts (type/match) are sold as new somewhere? Not front clip (I've found a kit for those), but for door hinges etc... Only asking because I blasted mine like you did Mike, but some of mine are questionable.

Re: 1969 Short Wide

I soak that kind of stuff for a couple days with Evapo Rust and does a pretty good job for those of us without blasting cabinets..

Looking good Mike. Keep moving forward.

I'm not sure if anyone makes the hinge bolt exactly like the original or not?
You could probably find some very close at McMaster Carr or Fastenal.
But it's hard to beat the originals.
How many you have that are questionable? I'm going to end up with extras. Plus, I have a few old parts trucks out there. I can send you as many as you need.

Thanks Steve. I have never tried evapo rust sounds like good stuff. I like having access to cabinet. It makes quick for most of these ole rusty parts.... Dang it takes a bunch of parts to build one of these trucks.

Re: 1969 Short Wide

Thanks for the offer Mike! But I'd rather buy new black chromate ones if possible. There were just a few that got chewed up pretty good, figured I'd replace them all one day anyways.
