Thank you Mike... it sure is a slow process on this part of the build.

I got my dash bezel in. Figured this would give me something to do when it's too cold to do anything in the garage. Ordered from Manes Truck Parts and drop shipped from Woodall Industries in Kentucky. Man it's purdy. :-)

Great looking project, you are doing great! Gotta love the craptermarket steel:lol: If I had hair I would have pulled mine out last year. I still have to do my passenger side and found out about Tabco a little too late. I will be trying their parts on the passenger side. I have heard nothing but good about them.

My main reason for waiting besides not wanting to have to scuff the whole cab, is because I want to get the chemical bond between the two primers, if I wait and the lay the epoxy I can then follow up with poly the next day, but if I let the epoxy cure while I'm doing the metal
and then just scuff it up.. I won't ever get that chemical bond between the two.. or is that not correct?

Sounds like you read the directions, this is the exact same conclusion I came to on mine and I have a gallon of epoxy in the closet until I am ready to strip and spray the entire cab, then put a layer of high fill over the epoxy. Also I have left several sections of my cab and body in bare blasted steel for nearly a year and it has yet to rust. Just dont rub your sweaty hands all over it;)

I am well aware of most people leaving their sheet metal in epoxy for months/years and not having adhesion issues but I also hear it is a huge pain to sand/scuff epoxy. Keep up the good work!

Re: Project 69SWB

Thanks for the vote of confidence Dan. I'm debating ordering the rockers from Tabco and scrapping these LMC jobs.. even though they fit great. I just hate to have to spread filler on that top part that will be getting stepped on often. :-/ My cab was blasted a couple months ago and not one sign of rust so far... When it comes to the epoxy that chemical bond I mentioned, you definitely want for a long lasting paint job. I'm no pro, but that's what guys I know personally who are pro's tell me. My paint and primers are all PPG brand and that's what the shop said too. Yes you can spray the epoxy and wait two years to paint or poly primer it, then scuff but it will never chemically bond to the epoxy like it was intended.

Got the upper cab corner in welded in and stripped of paint. This peice was from my 69 donor can so it fit like a glove. No Taiwanese steel here. I also filled in the two holes from the trim since I won't be putting any trim back on.

I had to cut out some of the previous owners work that wouldn't allow the lower cab corner to fit flush with the floor.

I cut some pieces from the other cab to use in this repair and want to use as much steel from the other cab as I can to keep it old school. :-)

I would have gotten further this weekend, but as it is I'm still waiting on the Cab Corners from Tabco... and since I still have to order the stuff for the drivers side, I think I'm going to get my rockers from them as well.

Scott, I got the driver side Cab corner in from you today. I think the priority mail tape was the only thing that kept that box together!! This is how it arrived. hahaha!

Can't wait to get it home and match it up to the others I have.

Also I appreciate the Chevy logo on the box.. That's awesome! Thanks again man!

:-)

the front cross came out real nice. I sand blasted mine and i think u can't tell the difference. anyway keep going.

Just rear your build and it seems to me that you are a pro at detailing. You are the man My friend.

Thank you kindly sir I appreciate that. I get alot of inspiration from other build threads like .. Yours! :-)

I finally got the passenger side done this weekend. The Tabco cab corner took a little persuasion but went on much better than the others I bought. It was the right width so it does not flare out in the back and also allowed me to butt it up to the cab floor nice and flush.

That top part of the pillar came out nice. So glad I don't have to replace the other side like this. It was a real job... Lots of welding.

The rocker went on and fit really good. I had to make a couple little cuts an bend here on the front to make it fit flush.

The Tabco corner and the Key Parts rocker from LMC doesn't match up real good at the bottom lips but I can play around with it a bit and make it transition nicely. The gap came out nicely here but I'm still thinking about welding it up and smoothing it out.

Hey thanks a lot Brian I really appreciate that. I sure got frustrated with the cab corners. Sometimes I spend way too much time on things but if I don't get it to a point that it passes my inspection... It'll nag at me until I go back and fix it.

Watching you do all of this from your garage is awesome, and doing work that makes YOU happy is the key. I'm daily driving a 69 lwb, but i know that in a couple of years i will be doing some similar repairs. Keep it up.

Will do Joshua. Oh the things I could do if I had a shop and a couple hundred thousand dollars worth of tools and a bunch of money to pay other people to do the work. Haha. My hats off and RESPECT to anyone building their own truck. I love doing my own work however time consuming it may be.

Lol, I don't know why it keeps surprising me when I see other people having the same problems / decisions I have, at least I know I'm not alone! That's exactly what I had to do to my rockers, and the same thing on the cab corner/rocker junction. I welded mine up, no filler on it yet or any finish work of any sort, but I really like the way it looks, glad I went that direction.
