Re: 1950 Chevy 3600 - Bumper Punchin'
Some of you may be saying "Why Levi? I thought you already painted your engine?!" And my response would be I did. But i made a mistake...
The ... at the end of that sentence could be enough of an explanation, but to relieve the few currently "in the know" from holding it over me, I made the mistake of quickly grabbing two orange cans of paint off the shelf at the local AutoZone without looking to see what orange it really was. Well, thanks to my good ol' buddy ol' pal Matt, he informed me the day after i painted the engine that the color looked "funny" and then pointed out that the receipt said "hemi orange". So for the last week i've gotten calls from various friends and family asking about my "Chevy Hemi" I was going to leave it. But, as usual, Matt was right and it was a better idea to wire it down and paint it again. So, we did. http://www.iveldesigns.com/__Downloa...09_misc/12.jpg And then after a few beers, we decided to get the shinny parts out and "test fit" them. http://www.iveldesigns.com/__Downloa...09_misc/13.jpg And here's the dreaded list. Blue dots == things that can be done now. everything else is waiting on something else. $ signs are things i have yet to order. It's kinda depressing when i add those things up. Now i see why most people spend a year or more building their rides. http://www.iveldesigns.com/__Downloa...09_misc/14.jpg |
Re: 1950 Chevy 3600 - Bumper Punchin'

I spent this weekend building a 10x10 shed so that i can get the crap out of my garage and will have room to park both the '50 and the '69 in the garage for the summer. Got everything except trim done on the shed in 2 days. Saturday was snowing so it was slow going. I'll post up some pics of the shed in the Othere Projects forum tonight. With any luck, next weekend will be highly productive as everything from Scotts Hotrods should be here. |
Re: 1950 Chevy 3600 - Bumper Punchin'
updates updates updates!
lots of progress and pics this weekend. my IFS showed up from Scotts on friday, and i had the crossmember mocked up by friday night. It was actually a little wider than my frame, so i needed to add some steel to get a good fit. fortunately i had some .125" steel plate, and each side needed exactly .125". So, a little cutting and trimming and we were good to go. Now the cross member sits waiting for a better welder than myself to finish it up. http://www.IvelDesigns.com/__Downloa..._tunnel/20.jpg http://www.IvelDesigns.com/__Downloa..._tunnel/21.jpg http://www.IvelDesigns.com/__Downloa..._tunnel/22.jpg http://www.IvelDesigns.com/__Downloa..._tunnel/23.jpg http://www.IvelDesigns.com/__Downloa..._tunnel/24.jpg |
Re: 1950 Chevy 3600 - Bumper Punchin'
the rest of the weekend was spent helping a buddy move, and then working on the tunnel. It's nearly done, but time ran out for the night tonight. Here's a bunch of pics showing what i ended up with and how i got there.
http://www.IvelDesigns.com/__Downloa...9_tunnel/1.jpg http://www.IvelDesigns.com/__Downloa...9_tunnel/2.jpg http://www.IvelDesigns.com/__Downloa...9_tunnel/3.jpg Alexis really wanted to help, so i got her all "safety geared up". ear plugs in (not just her fingers) hat to hold her hair, face mask, and long sleeves. my wife got a couple pics of her. http://www.IvelDesigns.com/__Downloa...9_tunnel/4.jpg http://www.IvelDesigns.com/__Downloa...9_tunnel/5.jpg http://www.IvelDesigns.com/__Downloa...9_tunnel/6.jpg http://www.IvelDesigns.com/__Downloa...9_tunnel/7.jpg http://www.IvelDesigns.com/__Downloa...9_tunnel/8.jpg http://www.IvelDesigns.com/__Downloa...9_tunnel/9.jpg |

more pics:
http://www.IvelDesigns.com/__Downloa..._tunnel/10.jpg http://www.IvelDesigns.com/__Downloa..._tunnel/11.jpg http://www.IvelDesigns.com/__Downloa..._tunnel/12.jpg and at one point i had all three kids helping out. each with a job appropriate for the skill level. http://www.IvelDesigns.com/__Downloa..._tunnel/31.jpg Mikie did some good work on the 10 bolt rear i got from bob68327. after he did this i got the "big boy" grinder out (7" dewalt" and took care of the remaining brackets and junk. wife and kids put on some rubber gloves and put 2 coats of POR 15 on it. really it was just something for them to do as some will get grinded off when i do the rear end. http://www.IvelDesigns.com/__Downloa..._tunnel/30.jpg no pics of the rear as it sits now |

Re: 1950 Chevy 3600 - Bumper Punchin'
i was going to put this before the pic of the sheetmetal with all of the plate steel and clamps on it, but cannot edit the post now...
**************************************** and when you don't have a sheetmetal brake.... you improvise. the big "U" tunnel will be under the seat, so the hammer marks are a non-concern. I did decide to go with a 3 piece setup for the front half of the tunnel. just so it looks a bit better. I need to practice my welding though :) |
Re: 1950 Chevy 3600 - Bumper Punchin'
How are you driving with no column, pedals, seats, guages, windows?
You are a master of crazy. |

Re: 1950 Chevy 3600 - Bumper Punchin'
So tonight's update comes with no pics since my wife is off to a concert with my daughter and has the camera with her. I'm embarrassed to say what 90's pop band they are seeing, so I won't. :)
anyways, the tranny tunnel is now done, firewall to back of cab. Now lets just hope the tranny fits in there when I get that set in later this week. |
