Steering Wheel installed
Got to install my steering wheel this evening. Brake lines arrived from Inline Tube, and some more Gates Power Grip heat shrink hose clamps which are very cool. http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...0/IMG_1036.jpg http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...0/IMG_1038.jpg :gmc2: |

A/C Vents, Fuel Lines, Trans Cooler lines Installed
All I can say is that Car Boss is a great friend! I and Double E took the weekend off. I went to another wedding and he left town to visit a friend. I thought Car Boss was going to leave also and put some miles on his new truck, but instead he stayed behind and worked on the GMC. He got the A/C vents installed, fuel lines competed and tested with no leaks and installed the trans cooler lines. When I found him around 5 this afternoon he was under the truck test fitting the new Magnaflow exhaust. What a guy! Couple of pics of the A/C vents. http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...0/IMG_1046.jpg http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...0/IMG_1051.jpg http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...0/IMG_1050.jpg :gmc2: |

While I was installing the trans cooler on Z10's truck yesterday a friend stopped by and asked me how I modified the ends of the 5/16" steel transmission tube to fit a 3/8" hose. As I demonstrated for him I took some pictures in case anyone else is interested.
I use my flaring tool tubing clamp and a modified swaging tool. I use my flaring tool tubing clamp and a modified swaging tool. Attachment 1209640 Attachment 1209641 Attachment 1209643 I then used my beading tool on the expanded end. Attachment 1209644 Attachment 1209651 If you don't have a beading tool you can use the first stage of a double flare to make the retaining bead. However, you need to do that before you expand the tube with the swaging tool. |

Stainless Magnaflow Exhaust with Cats installed
Carboss and Double E where busy this week, while I was back east working. Some more great progress this week. I decided to go with a Magnaflow stainless exhaust system with cats. This is a really nice system and fit's like a glove. Comes with an X-pipe cross over and fit very nice. Need to decide on some tips but it doesn't look bad with the bare stainless pipes exiting behind the rear tires. http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...0/IMG_1063.jpg http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...0/IMG_1055.jpg http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...0/IMG_1057.jpg http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...0/IMG_1059.jpg http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...0/IMG_1060.jpg http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...0/IMG_1064.jpg :gmc2: |

Re: 72 GMC Short Step Build
Air Box Completed
Car Boss was busy this week! He also completed the Air Box. He's now just waiting on me to paint it and put it back in. Double E, spent 5 hours routing the plug wires to his satisfaction and they look great! He also, finished wiring the power to the second fuse box and A/C evaporator, ran the battery connections to the starter and the main ground. I think the only thing left electrically is to mount and connect the horns. We also, cranked the engine with Double E's computer hooked up, and every thing checked out. Also, we have oil pressure. Car Boss fabricated the throttle cable and we started bench bleeding the master cylinder when we discovered we have a leak in one of the side plugs. We'll have to sort this out. Hopefully we'll wake up the beast this week! :ennyd: http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...0/IMG_1068.jpg http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...0/IMG_1067.jpg http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...0/IMG_1065.jpg :gmc2: |
Re: 72 GMC Short Step Build
:ennyd:It's ALIVE!!!!!
Well actually we started the engine last night but my video didn't work. So here's day 2 after a little misc tuning. Engine started on the first try and is running very smoothly, temps, pressures all look excellent and no liquid leaks. Tomorrow we'll get the airbox installed, horns mounted, bolt in the seat temporarily, bolt on the hood, and go get some fuel! This was a very good day. Hmmm? How about we brake it in for at least 5 or 10 miles? :burnout: :gmc2: |
Re: 72 GMC Short Step Build
Oh, Car Boss wanted me to let everyone know that the Shiny new Magnaflow system did not come with cats, but we did add Magnaflow cats. The cats are about 9" long, very small. Why cats? Not because I'm a greenie, but because the child bride doesn't like the smell of the exhaust in my 69 Camaro and I want her riding in this one.

First Drive
Another great day (for the most part). We got to drive the truck today. Double E hasd his computer hooked up and recorded about 10 miles of data, so I'm sure he'll be up tonight reviewing and making changes to the tune. We did have some trouble though. The brakes were locking up, which cause the small burn out in Car Boss shop. This was corrected by adjusting the brake pedal travel and the new brake booster from CPP leaks, therefore we don't have any power assist. I don't think I mentioned that this week the CPP master cylinder leaked also, forcing me to buy a new one from a local parts house. I've had nothing but trouble with CPP on this set up. So, first thing Monday I'll have to call them and hopefully get a refund on the master and a new booster sent out. :banghead: Tomorrow I'll clean the truck up and see if I can sneak it back in Car Boss' shop to start the final A/C and Cruise hook ups. Seat Installed
We installed the seat last Friday so that we could drive the truck, but will need to take it back out to install the carpet and seat belts. Truckseats did a great job. http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...0/IMG_1098.jpg http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...0/IMG_1099.jpg And here's a pic of the truck in the Sunshine for the first time since October. http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...0/IMG_1102.jpg :gmc2: |
