It looks good man I dig it! That was quite the endeavor, I think you did a good job!

Don't get used to the SB dually. I plan on going to single eventually. I have come to the realization that I won't be pulling the Jeep with my square in two days. I still have some work to do on the Jeep and there just isn't time. I won't be able to drive the truck to get any confidence in it. I feel like I failed, but I knew all along it would be a long shot to get it done.

I know how you feel. Keep the faith. I've postponed a couple driving trips because I haven't worked out the kinks in mine. They will be cool and useful when done, and hopefully reliable. I just try to avoid looking at duramax's on Craigslist!

Re: Daddyjeep Hauler - 85 K30 crew cab short bed

I don't know if this will work or not, but here is a short video of the truck moving under it's own power. That is about all it is doing, but it is doing it. I am going to throw some plugs in it to see if that wakes it up a little. The plugs have quite a bit of burnt oil on them, so it looks like the rings have seen better days.

Thanks Woody. It is satisfying that it moves, but still disappointing that it won't be ready to pull the Jeep to the Jeep Festival on Wednesday. I gave it a valiant effort, but came up a little short.

Re: Daddyjeep Hauler - 85 K30 crew cab short bed

I don't know about you, but I have a real problem trying to get things done in any given time frame. Deadlines, time crunches and such like really scramble my brain and virtually always lead to a comedy of errors (to quote Shakespeare) for me.

You can see from my user name that I am into wooden boats. I've been a member of the forum at Glen-L.com since the forum was founded and I was the moderator for about a decade over there. We have a get-together the third of weekend of every September at Nickajack Lake in East Tennessee. This is not a group of guys that have restored antique boats. Rather, it's a group of guys that have brand new built mahogany runabouts from the ground up using modern epoxies and modern drive trains combined with traditional woods. We end up with beautiful boats that have all the charm and appearance of classic water craft but can run with the best fiberglass boats on the water. So, my own boat has really given me absolute fits because, every time I try to work on it, I won't have this tool or that tool, maybe I need to order more epoxy and my supplier is out, or I have an allergic reaction to the stuff. I always try to use the September event to motivate myself and it always leads to disaster.

On the other hand, when I just forget about it and work a little on the boat as I get the chance, it just flows right along and I have no problems at all.

Somehow, I really think that you and I have a LOT in common.

Yes, Woody projects are all the same no matter what kind of project. Check out my Jeep build linked below. That thing got side tracked and snowballed for 4 years. No matter what the challenges are it is worth all the aggrevation and hard work in the end.

Re: Daddyjeep Hauler - 85 K30 crew cab short bed

Well, the Square didn't make it to the Jeep Festival and the Jeep wouldn't run once I got it there. I think I burned up the computer in the Jeep.

This might be part of the reason the truck isn't running so good.

Crap sorry to hear of your problems. That's a lot easier fix than a lot of potential problems at least!

Re: Daddyjeep Hauler - 85 K30 crew cab short bed

I'm not too sure about that Marcus. This isn't my first computer so I will not be just throwing in another replacement. I am either re-wiring to an OBD2 system instead of the OBD1 of spending a bunch of money on a MegaSquirt system. Breaking an axle would have been much easier to fix. :)

Re: Daddyjeep Hauler - 85 K30 crew cab short bed

I meant the tune up your pickup needs, haha. Yeah frying computers is never good. I didn't have great luck with aftermarket EFI on my '77 but they have come a long way. Howell harness and computer work well in my crew cab. Not quite perfect but close.

Re: Daddyjeep Hauler - 85 K30 crew cab short bed

Sorry Marcus, I am more concerned with my Jeep issues at the moment so that is how I understood your message. I used to have Howell system in my Jeep before I swapped in the V8. I was real happy with how that worked, but then I wanted more power so I went V8. Anyway....back to the truck, hopefully I see instant improvement when I get the new plugs in. We'll see tonight.

I would think a 6.0 in the dually and a 5.3 in the jeep would fix all issues stated above :)

Re: Daddyjeep Hauler - 85 K30 crew cab short bed

Not a lot going on the the DaddyJeep shop lately. After the mad rush the last few months I guess I just needed a break. That, and my eye has been really screwed up lately so that has kept me from doing much of anything. I'm getting the eye taken out in July so that will put an end to that problem. My eye hasn't worked in almost 20 years so I won't miss it much. If I can talk the doctor into it I am going to get a new eye painted like an 8 ball. :)

I did put the new plugs in the truck and new wires. I found a couple of broken wires, so those cylinders were likely not firing at all. It idles and revs better, but I have not taken it out for a drive yet. I also got some Cherry Bomb turbo mufflers. I read that they are tuned so they don't have the drone that many turbo muffler have, and they were cheap. We will see how they sound when I can drag the truck to my buddies that has an exhaust bender.

Fixed your recommendation, Dave ;)

Sorry your eye causing problems. If the doc will go for your plan, that is a cool doc.

Thanks man, dang key board!

So Daddy, if you are tired of working on that K30, ship it out here, Ill tune it up for you and install a shiny new 10 bolt front end and return it to you. The weight savings over that Dana 60 alone will get you a few more MPG ;)

Wow, that is very kind of you. Just sit on the front porch and wait for it to show up. You might want to pack a lunch though, it might take a couple days.

As luck would have it, I actually spent a little time in the shop tonight. I made the first filler piece to tie the new floor pan into the transmission tunnel.

I finished up the filler for the floor tonight. At least I am making progress. I find it really satisfying forming metal with a hammer.

Productive day today...passenger side doors and fender removed. Inner and outer front rocker panel removed and new ones welded in. Hopefully tomorrow I can get the rear rocker and cab corner done.

Re: Daddyjeep Hauler - 85 K30 crew cab short bed

Well, Sunday wasn't as productive as I hoped. I found some rust in the floor behind the B pillar so I had to cut that out and had to build my own inner rockers for the back. I have everything built and the rocker mostly modified so hopefully I can finish that part up pretty quickly and move on to the cab corner. When I pull the cab this winter I will have to address some more issues when the bottom is a little more accessible. I need to replace part of the center cab support and fill some holes to seal up the rockers better.

I didn't set foot in the shop yesterday. I left the house at 2:30 AM to head to Lake Erie to look for some walleye.

The sunrise on the lake was pretty amazing.

We ended up finding 10 walleye. Not the best day on the water, but will make a few tasty meals.

That's me in the orange, my dad, my brother, and my oldest son. Unfortunately my youngest son got sick and couldn't go.
