How hard all in all was the dash? Would you recomend it?

mooseknuckles 11-30-2010 01:32 PM

Re: My 86 build

Wasn't hard at all...If you want a sweet looking custom dash for cheap, then I definitely recommend it. But if you don't like to do bodywork and block sanding you wont like it! The more time and effort that you put into it the better it will turn out. I have about 5-6 hours in mine and it looks one-hundred times better than it did or better than any replacement would, and its not even painted yet!

You have a really nice truck. Do you have any pictures or info on how you made your roll pan?

Re: My 86 build

I did have pics but my pos computer crashed! .......I had a piece of sheet metal left over from my shaved tailgate mod and cut it to length, bent a 90 in it on the work bench, then bent a few curves in it over a length of pipe to get the same shape. I welded it on and made a box for the licence plate and cut it in and welded it. It's not perfect but it was practically free!

got a question for you, ok a couple.

when you did your drop b4 your front bags, did you do a notch in the back or no? and if not does she bottom out bad? did you use a flip kit or just make your own? and also when u did your flip did you relocate your shock mounts or just go to the front shocks? how bout clearance in the front with ur 3inch drop spindles? did you have any probs after cuttin your coils? did you have "chevy lean" b4 your drop?

sorry :( i know i just asked you like a million questions. im tryin to figure this drop thing out and you have like my ideal stance so i figured id bug yah. thanks SO much in advance! and if youd already awnsered these ?'s in a previous post and i missed it when i read through sorry.

No prob......I made my own flip in the back by cutting the perches off and welding them on the bottom of the axle. I never notched it then, but I took the bumpstops off, The axle never hit the frame at all unless I had something in the back. Later when I lowered the back end more by moving the spring hangers, I made a c-notch out of some 6" tubing cut in half and plated the sides. Then I had to change shocks cause the ones I had on were bottoming out. Still same shock mounts but with a set of front shocks. The front wheels would rub on the inner fenders if I hit a good bump so I took them out. The coils were ok after I cut them, but I wanted it lower so I bought bags and made some mounts. It has a bit of a lean from one side to the other maybe 1/2" or more... right now its dropped 9" in the back and about 7" in the front and hardly ever scrapes the ground.

yeah its pretty low, lower than most cars.

still static in the rear for now, I cant really go any lower without a bigger notch, no drop spring, but I did take a few leafs out to soften up the ride. the notch is 3", if I didn't have it the axle would be right on the frame!

I picked these bad boys up this afternoon, hopefully get at that today or tomorrow. The fenders look like they will fit perfectly if I can mount them up high enough, without hitting the hood hinge..
