from post 139 " but the speedometer is a different story. The 4L60e uses an electric speedo when these old trucks use a mechanical one. It's ok I'll just use my gps for speed when traveling"

Dakota digital makes a elec to cable conversion box so you can keep your stock speedo....I used one in my 81 and it works great...a little spendy but im happy....

Electric fan is in place and it works awesome. I also fabricated the top radiator surround piece that fills the gap between the core support top rail and the radiator top tank. Pictures are kind of terrible.

Added a check engine light just in case something is wrong the computer can let me know. I used the factory over speed lamp location for the MIL (check engine light). I just got a pigtail for a 194 bulb at O’Reilys. Hook the brown wire to the ignition lug on the back of the tach (pink wire). Hooked the black to the computer red connector pin 46 which is the MIL control. Works perfect. And I have a clean bill of health I guess because the light turns off as soon as the engine fires up

I cannot figure out for the life of me how to add videos so here the Noob tube link.

Electric fan drowns out the sound of the engine idle. I’m impressed it runs ice cold even in 105 deg Texas heat.

During my little excursion I realized how annoyed I get driving around without a speedometer. Sure I could use the GPS app on my phone and it works great but it’s not the same when the speedometer needle continues to rest on 0. After lots of research I figured I would modify a Late model speedometer to accommodate my needs. The newer they are the more complex they are and they usually have a digital odometer. I’m trying to retain as much of the original look as I can so I found a speedometer out of a 92-93 ish G series Van which is electric and has an analog odometer

This speedometer only needs three connections 1. Ground 2. Ignition 12v 3. SS (speed sensor)

Now with some head scratching, drilling and trial and error I was able to remove the cable drive and mount the stepper motor for the speedometer

Now that the shaft of the stepper motor was correct it was time to sort out how I was going to mount the needle. Using the JB weld I secured the needle to the spindle head for the stepper motor

Time for a road test and the speedometer WORKS!!! I wired it up and drove around the block it’s way to fast but the speedometer can easily be programmed in PCM (computer). Now to sort out how I’m going to mount the Odometer. Since I moved the stepper motors from there original configuration the board will not plug into the back is the motors. Nothing a little wire and some solder can’t fix

Got the Odometer sorted out now the big question is can I get it to fit in the cluster without destroying the cluster housing. I know I’m gonna have to cut holes in the back of the cluster because the stepping motor ls stick out the back

It’s been over a year since I swapped out my old 400SBC with the 5.3 liter LM7 truck motor. Still super clean under the hood. Added a cooler 180 degree thermostat compared to the stock 187 that it calls for. Just purchased an all aluminum radiator to install hopefully this weekend. Stay tuned in

So I’m back on my speedometer project. I found an electric speedometer from an early GM car that is horizontal sweep like mine I scanned the electronic speedo face into photoshop. May the editing begin

I also scanned my original dash lens so I could copy the original font to the electronic speedometer. My lens, then after some photoshop. Next I need to space the numbers out to match the sweep on the electronic speedometer. There will be space to add an 110th digit to it. Custom 110 MPH speedometer that looks stock. Yes I’ll have some

Do you happen to remember what year and model car you got that speedo from?

To the OP, I've been following in your footsteps and working on a cluster for my ls swap. Did you think about using the little circuit board that went the speedometer/odometer? I'm wondering if it would make for easier calibration. If it's needed at all. Or is it easier to to just handle everything in hptuners?

Rickover,

That’s just is I think if you slow the 4K pulse down to correct the speed I think the odometer will be slower. I’m still kinda playing with it at this point. I’m about halfway there. I will keep you peeps updated if I have a scientific breakthrough

Went up to see my dad for a few days so I wired up his LS swap project. 1966 C-10 SWB with a 5.3 with 84,000 miles on that we pulled from a 2003 suburban

Back out at dads and he helped me install the windshield molding in my truck. We cleaned and painted the glass channel and slapped the glass in.

Today I took on the daunting task of rebuilding the wing window on the drivers side. First time for everything came out pretty good. I sanded any rusted areas with 180 to strip as much of the rust off as possible. I sprayed any remaining rust with rust converter. Sanded everything with 400 and painted the frames gloss black. New precision weatherstripping and NOS run channel (fuzzy channel). Might to a step by step guide on the other side.
