Things have been going slow lately but they are starting to pick up again. My 78-79 dana 60 is on its way. I'm looking into a transfer case. The wiring has been started. Steering column and gear box will be sent off to be restored.

Re: 4x4 1971 K20 build

As my truck is patiently waiting for wires I have been thinking about my motor mount setup. As it would be a nice easy setup for a stock engine, mine won't be. I have decided to redo the whole crossmember as I plan to be putting lots of ponies to the ground later on in life. My Dana 60 will be rebuilt when the truck is on the road and I collect money, but for now it will wait. My steering parts are back and look wonderful. He is about ready to start the wiring. In the meantime my 71 dd had a hg blow so we hooked it up with some arp head bolts and it's rockin again. Stay tuned as hopefully the progress will pick up again.

Picked up a straight bedside with a small line of rust in the wheel well, and a real nice gate. Brakes are mostly plumbed, engine crossmember should be finished this weekend or damn near done. Then I need gate hardware and an NP261XHD or NP261HD for a transfer case.

It needs a little attention on the bottom but it is really nice. Only small dings on the inside. The guy had about 30 67-72 trucks.

Thank you.

Here's the crossmember. As of now it weighs 42 lbs. 1/4" and fully boxed. This shall keep my dirtymax calm no matter what.

I was really hoping for it to be done by now but it will all be worth it. Got a heavy duty crossmember put in. Made all of 1/4" thick steel. I also bought a 14 bolt 11.5" rear out of an 8.1 and it is now installed, just needs painted. Now I'll have a huge u-joint with disc brakes. If anyone needs rebuilt 71 k20 axles I got em! All of the intercooler plumbing is on its way. The rear drive shaft should be finished soon as well. I also bought a fun daily since I have a 60 mile round trip for work each day.

Well the duramax finally runs now after new injectors. It now has an 8" lift as well. I bought a new trans cooler and i now need to order crossover steering.

Thanks! The LS is amazing, fun and reliable. It also averages around 21MPG.

Awesome on all accounts! Too bad you had to replace the injectors but at least it is running and you know they are new now.

I know its an old thread but hopefully you'll still get notifications. What radiator did you use? Motor mounts?intercooler?

A champion radiator, custom front crossmember, and a universal mishimoto intercooler. If I were to redo it all over again, I’d either go a custom cooling package or run the duramax frame to allow the duramax cooling package to fit. The duramax cooling package is too tall for a stock frame truck as there is not enough room between the frame and hood and/or hood latch.
