Mongo sorry to read about your setback. Is there any way to turn the lemons into lemonade? Like if you’re going to end up stripping the primer off, is there something else you can do to the truck while it’s back at that stage?

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

thanks sparky...up to this point I was satisfied with the way everything had gone....I can't really think of anything I'd change or do different....well except for buying paint at a parts store....

If it is DTM high build primer you would be good to go axalta aka dupont has a good one nason select prime 421-10. It is a urethane primer.

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

well today I made a trip to the sw auto paint store....they confirmed my fears on the primer fiasco....its got to come off....dagnabit....the counter guy there was very knowledgeable on what needed done....he also drained my bank account while I was there...so with a bunch of new supplies, its back to the blaster and waiting on some decent weather..

I've had good luck with Sherwin Williams products. Not cheap but worth it IMO.

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

I had several people recommend sherwin williams....I never even went to the ppg store but was told they deal more with bc/cc and costs even more....im going with ss paint.....I've had good results with cheaper paint so the sw paint is a big step up for me....

well ,after the great primer setback of 2018, I finally got some of my body parts back to the blasters, so I'm waiting on that so I can put the "correct" primer on them....
in the meantime I grabbed a set of tires for Columbus. .bfgs 255/85-16..roughly 10.5x33....
tall and skinny......

also gave me a good excuse to try out the new rotisserie. ....
last week during a stretch of rainy days I decided I'd just build me a rotisserie....seems to work really well...will be a big help when I get the cab on it......

BIGglaSS 04-19-2018 10:07 AM

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

Nice job on the roto'. I'm going to have to build one some day.

mongocanfly 04-19-2018 11:10 AM

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

thanks Big.... it wasn't really all that hard to build...I did have to do a little machining work on the turrets though....other than that its just cut and weld

Advanced Design 04-19-2018 09:53 PM

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

You’ve been busy Greg with all the pieces in primer, the rotisserie and the parts coming in. Looks good!
