Hey, guys... Chad's Dad here.

You are right, I am really proud of Chad. He has been through a lot of adversity in his life... from leg injuries sustained in a head on collision at 5 years old to being impaled by a bicycle seat support after crashing on mile 98 of the 101 mile "3 State Three Mountain" bicycle race.

If he tells you he will do something, you can count on it. He is not only my son, but my best friend.

They look kinda 'Hiboy'ish' but I just couldn't afford full billet wheels. Mine are cast centers but I wanted gray anyway.

Thanks for all the compliments!

It's coming together !! -- We have the Big Block back, it's all together and will be going back in soon. the intake is just sitting on it for right now. We have some cam lube to pour in it right before firing it up for break in. We're going to go ahead and replace the seals in the transmission just to be sure before bolting it all back together. We painted the valve covers to match the block. The silver GMPP valve covers get so dirty so quickly man .. you can breathe on them and they'll show dirt. We painted them just to give it more of a vintage look and help keep them clean. We can just wipe them off now where before you just couldn't get the hand prints off. I really like them orange though ! I have a lot of Lokar / billet stuff to go back on the engine. I bought a black distributor cap to replace the red one I had before and will probably get a billet water neck for it soon. Just basic looking Chevy orange with touches of black (semi and gloss) and billet.

I also got my console from Johnathan, it looks great. :metal: We're getting there.

Dad and I started bringing the metal back up with Epoxy on Saturday. When we got all the metal blasted it was sprayed with DP, but I knocked it all back off and worked each and every dent as best as we could. One thing's for sure we're learning a LOT with this project. It is now back in DP, and Dad will spray the first pass of high build one day this week, weather permitting.

I can't wait till spring time.

Dad is talking about a more adventurous time in my life where I was into Triathlon and racing bikes .. I have a picture of it, PM if you want to see. It was the most bizarre thing that could have happened I think. I crashed at about 45-50 mph coming off of Lookout mtn here in Chattanooga. I was passing cars coming off the mountain.

When I hit, I folded a Yield sign all the way to the ground and something popped the cover off the seat rails, exposing the metal (titanium) that holds the seat on. Yeah, and I was squeezing the seat with my legs.. the rails impaled my right calf. 3 surgeries, 5 weeks on my back. It was bad ..

I have done 6 century rides (100+ miles) and one Half Marathon since then. anything with wheels and super fast, I love it.

That sounds pretty traumatic to say the least. Sounds like you're lucky to be alive. I bet that crash could have made that show called "scarred". Glad you were able to recover to ride again.

Truck is looking good, I'll be watching for you at the courthouse when the car shows start back up. Hopefully you'll be driving it by then. I have a copper colored 67 fleetside and go sometimes. I think it's great you and your dad are working together.

Chuck - What's up man? I'm sure I'll see you at the shows.. Isn't it the first Sat of every month? When I see it, I usually go but half the time I just don't know when it is..

I'm over off Harrison Pike / Hopewell area. My truck is at my dad's place in Soddy.

If you see me around, give me a shout. I'd like to see your truck too.

I am looking at replacing my air cleaner now that I painted my valve covers. Is anyone running this type of valve cover and if so, what air cleaner are you using? Does GMPP make one to match?

Right now it looks like a whole bunch of Orange but I'm sure once the engine is back in, I add a little billet :D here and there it will break it up some. I like them orange but they looked good silver too. I just couldn't keep them clean for nothin!

I have a K&N 14" round filter I'd like to use but I guess I could always sell it. Thinking maybe one of the oval type ?? Ideas / thoughts? Help me spend some $.

Also, I have my front fenders in high build now. I am working on the first block, I'll post some pics asap. They're coming out really nice.

My God, you are blessed to be alive. I travel Lookout Mountain all the time...are you saying you were hanging on for dear life via the impaled leg?

Re: 1969 C10 SWB Stepside - Big Block project

Not really, I was in a full 'aero tuck' position coming down the mtn and stablizing the bike with my legs. At that speed you kinda become one with the bike.

I touched the back brakes and I think the tube got too hot inside the wheel and may have popped ? It felt like it took me 20 min to stop. The bike started to (what I call cat walk) get squirley and everything went into slow motion from there.

You know right at the bottom where it comes together into St. Elmo Ave. ? that sharp curve at the end where the giant tree is .. the road makes a Y at the and / red light.

Let's just say I didn't yield. I just couldn't get it stopped man. It was rough. When I went down I guess the sign knocked the seat off and left the rails of the seat exposed. The rest was pretty bad. I went down hard in that landscaped area around the tree. .. slid for 20 ft or so through the leaves. I was just being stupid and paid for it.

I have the same valve covers as you but mine are Black. I went with black to break up the orange a little plus alot of my accessories are black. I painted my whole motor orange, even the intake. I'm running a Black edelbrock 14" air cleaner with mine. Pics in my build thread.

Keith your BB looks great man. I'm thinking I might change to a few more stainless / billet bolts here and there, a billet water neck, VA cover, distributor hold down clamp, possibly more when I can. Question - I noticed you have what appears to be a Billet Specialties water neck on yours .. is that the 45 deg version or the 15 deg?

I used to have black head bolts (ARP) until I had to pull the engine for rebuild. When we got it back the heads were already on, valves adjusted, etc. So we just had to paint over the bolts. I like the look of fresh clean, new bolts it just adds detail.

.. just getting through Christmas and several big purchases back to back. My wheels, tires, buckets and console, and an engine rebuild in about 90 days. I'm about tapped out in the fun money dept for a few weeks :D
