You did but wheres the Hurst shifter and linkage in the pic? It goes where those 3 triangle holes are

I didn't get a picture of it. It is laying in the bed of the truck also. It has the round shifter and not the embossed Hurst.

Yes that is the correct shifter, GM was too cheap to buy the actual Hurst stick so they made their own and just welded it in in the factory

Important, do you see the three shifter fingers? They are also GM and impossible to find, get them, get it all and the tailshaft

I may have to do that. If someone local sees this and wants to grab it feel free. I have a problem collecting parts that I don't really need. It is in the bed of a bronze colored 84 Chevy at the Tear-A-Part on Redwood Road in Salt Lake City.

I have been doing research on this transmission for like 10 months and have been looking for one as well so far no good leads.

Might be worth the 3.5 hour trip to Salt Lake City.

I think the bell housing is on the engine. It was a hydraulic clutch. You could try calling them 801-886-2345 , I really doubt if they could tell you if it was still there. The cover had been taken off of the transmission, so I would plan on it only being a core. I will probably go in there on my way to work Friday afternoon.

The shifter is there also. This one is out of a 4x4 so you would need a transfer case with the round pattern or an adapter. I

Ill have to check that out for sure looks like all it needs is a shifter. You said the one in slc had a shifter?

Yes, the shifter was in the bed with the transmission. Cars rotate through pretty quick sometimes.

Maybe someone will chime in, I would say yes. If you are serious I could grab the shifter for you.

I did search the forum but could not find anything relevant.

So word on the street is the 1980-85 two wheel drive trucks may have had the 4-speed New Process NV833 overdrive manual transmission. (this being a popular Mopar transmission)

1st = 3.09
2nd = 1.67
3rd = 1.00
4th = 0.73

I currently have the 4-speed Saginaw Muncie SM465 manual transmission, which only has 3 gears, the Low being useless for me and my driving needs. So it's just a practical 3 speed with a 1.00:1 tallest gear.

First Gear - 6.55:1
Second Gear - 3.58:1
Third Gear - 1.70:1
Fourth Gear - 1.00:1
Reverse - 6.09:1

Have any of you done the swap, how difficult is it? Can I use my old bellhousing?

here's some pics off the InterWebs

Yes and I heard about an trans called the NR440 that is an 4th geared overdrive and these came out around 1981 . The tranny you are talking about looks a little like this one . Did you have any results with that swap ? I have an 3/4 ton 1966 GMC w/ Muncie 4 speed, 292 6 banger . The Muncie finally needs replacing but is useless on the freeway ( Its time ) .in looking for an replacement that gives overdrive and the same indstructable wear factor .

Yes I did the swap and the results are amazing, it's a difference of night and day, the first gear is now usuable and the overdrive is just brilliant. The third gear is perfect for down hilling without riding the brakes too. The details are in my build thread, it's quite long already but skip till you find it somewheres in the middle I think

AHH H ! Wonderful news !
MY 66 needs it because as you know even tho the muncie 4 spd is an hammer and dependable ( mine lasted 36 yrs !! ) and I needed exactly what you reported about the first gear as usable for a change hahaha !
Is your truck an 66 3/4 ton or ? And may I ask what it can pull loadwise ?
I ask because the easy fix would have been an T5 World Class 5 speed . But it might have broke or something .
How did you address the speedometer issue if any ? Welding bracets Im sure .

THANKS for the reply !

My rig be a 74, 1/2 ton 2WD which only hauls a Christmas tree in the winter and the American flag in the summer, ha ha, in other words the truck is retired, as far as the speedo it was off when I drove 6 miles it said I went 6.5 so I switched the brown driven plastic speedo gear to a purple one, same part as in the TH350 so is the output shaft yoke, also I just took the reverse switch out of my Muncie and screwed it in to the New Process and it works fine, again ton of pics and info in my build thread

This is an aluminum trans if you want strength all you have to do is find its iron case Mopar sister and swap the guts into it, and you will have the best of both worlds, bullet proof strength with overdrive

Re read this thread I provide a link in it to Steve Dulcich doing just that: A-833 Aluminum Case Buildup - Maximum Overdrive

My 4wd one is different. Rods are heavier and shifter is offset a bit more, probably to give clearance to the t-case shifter.

Note that the shifter mounts on the tail extension on 2wd and on the t-case adaptor on the 4x4. Not sure if they are the exact same pattern and place fore / aft and crosscar. I believe the shifter itself is the same, just brackets and rods are different.

Again we need to understand, these are LIGHT DUTY trans. They are NOT Hemi 833's . The gear swap resulted in overdrive, but the price is much lower torque capacity. GM never used them on anything more powerful that the 305, think ~200hp and 300ft-lb max.

The iron case was used in the GM 4wd and it appears that the 2wd guts could be installed into it (output shafts have different lengths and splines). That helps the case wear issue but not the torque capacity.

Re: What can be said about the 4-speed New Process NV833 overdrive manual transmissio

According to the parts manuals there is no linkage difference between 2WD and 4WD of the same year, we had this discussion before early 80s are different from mid 80s models, I have a mix of 2WD and 4WD linkages and some spares / duplicates and they are identical

D13 are your 2WD and 4WD of the same year? I bet they is different, hence the difference
