Important, do you see the three shifter fingers? They are also GM and impossible to find, get them, get it all and the tailshaft |

MY 66 needs it because as you know even tho the muncie 4 spd is an hammer and dependable ( mine lasted 36 yrs !! ) and I needed exactly what you reported about the first gear as usable for a change hahaha ! Is your truck an 66 3/4 ton or ? And may I ask what it can pull loadwise ? I ask because the easy fix would have been an T5 World Class 5 speed . But it might have broke or something . How did you address the speedometer issue if any ? Welding bracets Im sure . THANKS for the reply ! |

This is an aluminum trans if you want strength all you have to do is find its iron case Mopar sister and swap the guts into it, and you will have the best of both worlds, bullet proof strength with overdrive Re read this thread I provide a link in it to Steve Dulcich doing just that: A-833 Aluminum Case Buildup - Maximum Overdrive |

Note that the shifter mounts on the tail extension on 2wd and on the t-case adaptor on the 4x4. Not sure if they are the exact same pattern and place fore / aft and crosscar. I believe the shifter itself is the same, just brackets and rods are different. Again we need to understand, these are LIGHT DUTY trans. They are NOT Hemi 833's . The gear swap resulted in overdrive, but the price is much lower torque capacity. GM never used them on anything more powerful that the 305, think ~200hp and 300ft-lb max. The iron case was used in the GM 4wd and it appears that the 2wd guts could be installed into it (output shafts have different lengths and splines). That helps the case wear issue but not the torque capacity. |
Re: What can be said about the 4-speed New Process NV833 overdrive manual transmissio
Ok good to know I know that the shifters are hard to come by

Re: What can be said about the 4-speed New Process NV833 overdrive manual transmissio
According to the parts manuals there is no linkage difference between 2WD and 4WD of the same year, we had this discussion before early 80s are different from mid 80s models, I have a mix of 2WD and 4WD linkages and some spares / duplicates and they are identical
D13 are your 2WD and 4WD of the same year? I bet they is different, hence the difference |
Re: What can be said about the 4-speed New Process NV833 overdrive manual transmissio
