Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

thanks Doug. ...very busy...just doesn't seem like anything is getting accomplished.
...when I got the bed reblasted I told them not to blast the underside because i had lizard skinned it. ...from the previous blast when I had (wrong) primed the bed and then sprayed the underside with lizardskin....and at the time I talked to lizardskin and they said it should be ok...in the meantime the bed has been on sawhorses in my buddies shop and i havnt seen the underside in good light...
after I got the bed back from the blaster and on the rotisserie and flipped over out in the sunlight I am now seeing rust coming thru the lizardskin...its been indoors and has had no direct water contact other than maybe some humidity...so now i think its going back to the blaster to do the underside......seems like I can't win...

Ugh ...sorry to hear that. You’ve had more than your share for two forward and three back.

Hopefully your folks aren’t suspicious yet!

the ol brown truck been on a regular schedule as of late....got the nv4500 last thursday,,, along with all the connect point A to point B goodies from AA......as well as the new wheels from us mag.... (black stock rims).....they only come in black...I was wanting white. ...will have to see if the black grows on me or not

Those tires and wheels are going to look great on the old binder! I think black was the original color IH used on the wheels.

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

thanks blue....the original color for the wheels was white on one truck and red on the other...
I read somewhere that the rims were painted the predominant color on the truck...
I'm still torn over leaving em black. .or pc em white and ad hubcaps...

busy stripping down the frame this afternoon. ..thought I'd share this ...I knew this was there but never could get a good pic of it....
hows about a 4x4 ,in and out ,indicator switch...and in the late 50s...its a simple lever switch hooked to the 4wd shift lever...and yes there is a light on the dash...

also this curiosity. .wood blocks drove into the frame...right over the rear axle....both trucks have these blocks...I don't know if its a factory thing or a old farmers trick but odd that both trucks have them....

getting ready to mock up the mounts for the power steering box and thought I'd go ahead and reinforce the frame rails...for some unknown reason they narrowed the frame rails down to 1in wide on the top side over the axle and right where the motor mounts will be....
some 1/4×2 flat bar did the trick once I hammered it around to fit the frame contour.....
now I got to figure how to mount the steering box.....the IH frame is 7in wider than the gearbox donor frame...so itll need recessed into the frame a little.....

carried the frame and all the attached brackets to the blasters today...so while I'm waiting on that I worked on project mini-me....got the body sandblasted and primed...even had to do some "mini" body work on the cab...also shortened the bed...and in my sleep deprived mind i cut the rear bed section on the wrong mark so its 1/4" shorter than I meant...if it looks to bad short ill just get another bed and redo it...still have to shorten the frame...then it'll go to (mini paint jail)...haha

Clean and primed parts are always exciting...looks good.

Don’t know if your folks can see your shop from their place. If they can, I keep imagining the following...Mom looking out kitchen window toward your shop in the late evening. Says to your Dad...”Honey, do you have any idea why Greg is sneaking parts in and out at all hours? What is he up to anyway?”

This is a very nice thing you are doing for them.

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

thanks Doug..
yeah this sneaking stuff around is part of the fun of this truck build...they live 1/4 mile down the rd from me and off on a dead end rd...we cant see each other for all the trees..[thankfully]..and my place is 250yrds off the rd with a lot of trees between me and the rd....
I did the frame behind my shop so they couldn't see it if they drove by...and I had my truck hid so they wouldn't know I was there..
ive got so much stuff torn apart around my place im not sure theyd know what the frame was for if they did see it..all the body is at my buddys shop..
it was funny last week, when I left with the frame...dad was mowing the peoples yard across the rd from my driveway...I went sneaking up to the rd and waited til he was going away from me and I took off...he never saw me...
