Re: Project: ALTER-K-TION ('57 GMC Quad Cab)

Alrighty boys and girls, feeling a lot better after my accident and now that I have family watching what I'm doing I worked my ass off today on this truck. Probably won't look much different to a lot of people but I ended up cutting the first front cab off and starting over with another cab. This time around I left the cab as complete as I could to keep it from moving around too much.

I also had to move this project from the side of my house to get my Jimmy out because it was sold. This is what I call a custom hitch.

Here is the progress so far. New cab fitted up and firewall panels starting to go into place. Spent most of today hacking all the excess out of the cab.

Ordered all kinds of goodies from Classic Industries. Cowl panels, cab corners, hinge kits, hinge repair panels (inner, outer, and side), and other odds and ends. Sheetmetal gets expensive!

That thing is a beast. Really like the way the bed sides match the cab shape.

They had that truck at the Salt Lake City stop as well. Craftsmanship was amazing! Plus the truck was HUGE!

This baby is on long term hold.... I've been trying to get our '50 Plymouth all buttoned up before I start back on this. I know, I know, excuses, excuses. There is only so much time in one day though.

It's just sitting all covered up on the side of the house for now..... Dunno if I will finish this project or if it will rot out before then.

Just stumbled on this- any new progress?? I'm excited to see what you come up with!! I'm considering doing something similar, just a bit newer truck. Kinda bummed out that all the pictures are missing (except 2), but still a great read.
