Has anyone run across a period correct bed mounted tool box?

They were everywhere but I never see any now. They'd be steel, originally painted white, rounded lid/lids at the sides, and either two flip up from the side (gullwing) or one big hinged at the front. I liked the ones made by the utility body companies like Reading with paddle handles to open. Hiway Products makes the closest thing you can buy new that is pretty much the same as ones made back in the day. I think they are all aluminum now, but you can blast and paint or powder coat. I searched steel pickup saddle box and came up with a picture of this blue one. And it looks like it's steel. But when I went to the website listed with the picture this one didn't show

I did go to 800toolbox.com and saw aluminum ones that style, but not that exact one. I like that blue one. I used to paint mine body color.

How about these accessory wheelcovers? They are Western Auto or something like that. I have these for sale over on the parts board (not here). N.O.S. mint condition

Don't recall just when I did get them but it was quite a few years ago. Would work great mounted to the side of a work truck door panel, glove box, tool box or wall in the garage or shop as they fold up when not in use. Holds several different size cups, one is adjustable the other is not but both hold several sizes well. Also holds the "adult" beverages very well, LOL.

If any one has an interest in them I have a couple more I can part with. Seems I always buy extras just too have on hand. Must be why I keep finding items from way back.

These were factory, in front of throttle, on a ski boat we had 2000 Bayliner ... but still pretty neat & simple the way the fold up out of the way.

The blue one is cool. If only my blue truck wasn't a Jimmy with a doublewall top.
I bought my Orange'68 C/10 Stepside because the PO had put on a dealer-optioned big tool box on the back. He even had it painted 516 Orange to match.
Essential for keeping everything needed to keep a rig running, including a spare 5 gallon gas can [Justrite brand]. Jumper cables, tool box with special tools, wrenches, ratchets, sockets, etc.

Here's a late 1970s version of the Dana cruise control. I installed units like this on our 1979 Blazer and 1979 Honda Accord, and they worked very well. I bought the unused unit pictured about 10-15 years ago at a swap meet for $15 with the intention of installing it on my '69.

Lookin' Hard Corps.

Was there a reason you mounted the Turn Signals/ Parking Lights on the upper rung?

Was going to mount 4 turn signal lights in the grille, now I'm not sure

Yeah, that'd be fun.
I have some old Late '70s small rectangular halogen fogs and driving lights -- cheapies from JC Whitney -- that would fit in that slot. I'd have to get another Lower Grille Shelf, with the flat spots for mounting lights. Thought about doing it so long ago that I had forgotten about it until I saw your truck rigged like that.

Here's a pic of the 4 mounted. It is an after market grille, and had bare metal behind the grille surrounds, once I popped the rivets I was able to paint behind it

I think I'd do one or the other but not both. I mean the hood and the extra lights together.

I like that box. Makes me want to make one. I've seen them done like yours with the lids sloped a bit, too. I've been wanting to get my aluminum diamond plate box powder coated white. I think it would seem more vintage, not obviously aluminum, which you just didn't see being used back then. I always did the paint to match thing on my boxes.

I have a pair of Reading 90" flip top side boxes I originally ran on a '71 K/20. What Reading was making up through the '90s (at least) was still the same style as since the '60s. I've used them, off the truck, for tool storage for 15 years. I thought about painting those white and using on the '72 K2500

I only have pictures of them on an '84. Those are the same racks that are on the '72 now

I think it looks good with the double park/turn lamps and the hood. The grill guard will be the icing on the cake. :metal:

I have a couple of those wheels too. They came on a truck I bought years ago. Tim (special k) had a set of them at one time too. They are pretty neat.
