Re: 68' Chevy c10
Nice detail on the truck, it will be something to be proud of.
What type of paint did you use for the heater box? Looks good! |
Re: 68' Chevy c10
On your sm420 is there a pto port on the passenger side? also is there a sensor with two wires on the top of the casing?

Just wanted to post an update. had a some set backs lately, but not so much with the truck. first I found out the company I work for is being sold, and all employees have to re-apply. some of us will no longer have a job there. also lost my storage space so I have to find somewhere to put @ 30 ice machines.:waah: Anyway enough of that, back to the truck. My engine builder came by and set the valve, and lash got the timing perfect. had a small carb issue(some crud inside)fixed. she runs super smooth now! I had to do some fab work on the alt. bracket
Attachment 834127 Attachment 834128 once painted I think It will look good. Oh also have to get a new vac. advance, the one I have isn't working. |
Re: 68' Chevy c10

Re: 68' Chevy c10
Well I got all my ice machines moved to the new storage area yesterday, It took @ six hrs with the help of my buddy. both our backs are fellin it today. so I'm back to working on the truck today! finishing up the alt. bracket, and some other odds and ends. also getting the garage cleaned up AGAIN. will put some pics up later today.:chevy:

Re: 68' Chevy c10
Are you going to put any heat shields near those headers? Maybe it is just the pics but those wires look dangerously close! A guy I know, his cutlass went up in smoke when his headers started the wires on fire which led to the whole car burning up
|
Re: 68' Chevy c10
Thanks for the heads up on the wires. the pics make it look like they lay right on the headers, but only a couple wires are @ 1/2" away. the rest are farther. Do you know what the min. safe distance is?

Mounted heater core, and installed heater box. finished alt. bracket. I'll mount it as soon as paint dries.:metal: I used the same tar based tape around heater core tubes to completely seal the unit. I have tape temporarily holding blower motor seal against the firewall. Here's some pics.

Re: 68' Chevy c10
I don't what is considered a safe distance... I would call the manufacturer of the wires find out what yours are rated at for temp and ask them. I usually just make a heat shield out of sheet metal that the wires can lay on to keep them away from the headers. I have also used thermal boots near the ends that are already sewn to accommodate the 90* bend.
BTW-that propane heater you have in the last pic is awesome. My buddy got one for his garage when we are there working and it heats things up super fast! |
