Re: 86 Silverado K20 12V CUMMINS Build
Hey Brian. How's your truck coming along ? I see you eyed up my latest truck . I also have another 1st gen dodge packed away . May make something like you are if my 6.2 turns out to need some unexpected repairs . What front springs , or lift kit did you get for your truck ?

Re: 86 Silverado K20 12V CUMMINS Build
Very cool. Great job so far:metal: I see you cut the muffler off are you leaving it strait pipe? Also how do you like the sound deadening products you used? Keep up the good work.

Sure wish I could stash away some trucks for future projects. Having a hard enough time with one truck lol. I used Rough Country 4" all springs. Ordered out of a place in BC and had it shipped to the door. I would think there is a better way. It was like $800. Maybe you can run the new truck at the fair in 2 months. |

The truck will have a dynomax performance muffler. I have run this on this engine for many years and have got two free ones because they have a lifetime warrentee. (Rust) There is no drone, sound smooth and the turbo sounds awesome at the tailpipe. I have more sound deadening to apply inside the cab and the rest of the body. So far they apply really good but time will tell as far as actually using it driving down the road. |
Re: 86 Silverado K20 12V CUMMINS Build
So I got the box done. Came out better then the cab.

Re: 86 Silverado K20 12V CUMMINS Build
Lol committed. No kidding!
Don't think anybody wil be stripping and rebuilding this body in another 30 years  I'm still not sure or committed to the system I am going to go for the four wheel drive. I'm seriously considering putting a drivers side drop front axle and putting a real transmission and transfer case in. Just not sure yet. |

Re: 86 Silverado K20 12V CUMMINS Build
Ya I'd like to know what's up too. Not too often in the web world that you actually find somthing cool going on and it's only a little ways away . And the truck lived up my way before you . That makes it a neat read aswell.

Re: 86 Silverado K20 12V CUMMINS Build
Well I got my old school fuel shutdown cable fabbed up and installed. It works too. Drilled a hole and mounted it below the headlight switch. Pushed in for "run"
http://i1284.photobucket.com/albums/...psm26fed40.jpg Drilled a hole in the firewall and mounted with a rubber gromet. http://i1284.photobucket.com/albums/...psqstelejs.jpg Fabbed up a little holder bracket "run" position http://i1284.photobucket.com/albums/...psfytefxyz.jpg "shutdown" position http://i1284.photobucket.com/albums/...ps01xf1arv.jpg http://i1284.photobucket.com/albums/...psoec9bbum.jpg I also got the fuel lines and sender finished up and dumped in 5 gal of good old $0.85 Diesel Fuel. What a big difference, seems like not that long ago it was $1.43. This weekend I was able to "drive" the truck in and out of the garage under it's own power. Able to start it up, shut it down and run it. Clutch and shifting seem fine so far. Was nice to get it out in the sun for awhile too. http://i1284.photobucket.com/albums/...ps5mjx3wpq.jpg http://i1284.photobucket.com/albums/...pslba44z5s.jpg Got the exhaust completely finished also. DynaMAX performance muffler and tail pipe. Very solid with 4 rubber mounts. Decided on a 1.5 inch body lift. The box is completely bolted down with new hardware. Will need to take and upload more pictures........ |

Nice work. Should be back together in no time.

Re: 86 Silverado K20 12V CUMMINS Build
Looks good . Always gets you motivated once they start to look like trucks again. What did you end up using for a transfercase ?
|
Re: 86 Silverado K20 12V CUMMINS Build
Nice work! It looks great out doors too!
|
Re: 86 Silverado K20 12V CUMMINS Build
Now thats some good progress. SO cool when it moves under it's own power congrats!! My friend has a '85 Toyota Land cruiser and has used your cable shut down method for years. Great for anti theft as well.

Just picked it up after 3 years of searching. Think I found the right one. Mid 70's IH remote mount 32 spline np205. http://i1284.photobucket.com/albums/...psafrgucpv.jpg |
Re: 86 Silverado K20 12V CUMMINS Build
Just what the doctor ordered . Lol. You don't trip over those everyday. Where did you find it? Kijji to the rescue ?
|
Re: 86 Silverado K20 12V CUMMINS Build
Yup. Kijiji. Was hiding in a backyard shop way down in port credit. Time to get serious. So far inspection has shown up no surprises. I don't think it was shifted much. Clean inside and shift rails don't seem to have any indent ball wear. I will know for sure after a full tear down and refresh. Also does not look like it was ever taken apart. The price I paid there is money left over for new paint and a rebuild kit no problem.

Re: 86 Silverado K20 12V CUMMINS Build
Nice that old stuff is hard to find up here.
|
Re: 86 Silverado K20 12V CUMMINS Build
Thanks guys. Yes good score and very hard time find good stuff and rust free stuff around here.
Got it cleaned up some. Gotta look online for a rebuild kit and some new yokes? Any advise on that without paying a fortune in shipping? |
Re: 86 Silverado K20 12V CUMMINS Build
HELP
I trying to source yokes for my transfercase. New ones are $$. I want to run the 1410. Does anyone know if all 89-93 cummins np205 regardless of input shaft all run 32 spline front and rear outputs? I'm likely better off buying another transfer case from behind an automatic as long as the yokes are good. I also would possibly get the driveshafts and be able to lengthen or shorten as needed. This way I would buy a new yoke for my 14bolt, it needs one regardless of the size and another for the input of the 205 for the intermediate shaft. The ones that are on the case are the small ones. Don't really think it is a good idea to go cheap in this area of the build. Help, comments, suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thx. |
Re: 86 Silverado K20 12V CUMMINS Build
I think the 89-93 dodge 205s are 32 spline on the front too.
On edit, quad says they are. About 3/4s the way down the page QU10935 Genuine NPG Balanced CV Flange is the USA made factory replacement for original square front output CV flange used in 1975½-1993 full size Dodge 4x4 trucks with the NP205 Transfer Case. Includes slinger. Order optional QU10806 Bolts to secure driveshaft. Will also fit any other NP205 32 spline fixed yoke shaft. Please refer to QU10935 page for more details and ordering information. http://www.quad4x4.com/New_Process_NP205_Parts.html |
