Few pics of doing work over labor day weekend. Hauled about 35 tons of rock. Tranny never got above 180, motor used a couple quarts of oil. It rides great with a 1200 lbs compactor in the back.

Such a cool truck. Makes me want a crew cab SRW in a bad way. You're going to love that L29. Great engines!

Thanks guys. I took the 2000 K3500 donor truck for a spin around the block (no tags, insurance etc) and it is snappy. Great torque. Should make for a good work truck.

One of my buddies had a lowered 99 c3500 and it would roast the duals fun motor and workhorses

Ok thanks. I didn't know if it might be your 8.1L donor.

MTCK 10-06-2015 10:04 PM

Re: 1991 V3500 Project Heavy Hauler

Nope I'm going to give the 454 a shot. I came across a deal I couldn't pass up, and the fitment is a little easier since some of the brackets to mount the 8.1L AC compressor up high are getting harder to find.

wow very good work. Should be nice with the vortec 454. Are you parting out the donor crew cab?

I would be interested in the cab lights and harness :)

You might have said it all ready, but where did you get the floor mat?

I love your truck by the way.

MTCK 10-20-2015 10:48 AM

Re: 1991 V3500 Project Heavy Hauler

Floor mat, window and door seals, front interior door panels, front speaker pods and gauge pillar pod all came from Chris Lucas at 73-87chevytrucks.com. Great service, but shipping to AK sucks.

imagine havoing to have youre parts shipped to europe from there
it cost a bunch and theres a real chance the parts whont arive at all
ordered two wintercoats at an online store it took me 3 months to prove them the coats never arved (shipper america said shipped schipper netherlands said never arived etc) and for them to refund the cash
at least you guys can go to the place by car , takes me 18 hours flying at least
by then my mad is just about cooled and i dont feel the urge to pull someone across his desk :D

Re: 1991 V3500 Project Heavy Hauler

Yeah that would be a PITA. I couldn't imagine trying to build an MG or equivalent over here. Good luck.

Time to yank out the L29 and get to work. Pics to follow.

No snow to speak of after that first dump we got. Motor is out and on the engine stand. Engine stand is protesting. It took me part of two days as I was working with the truck half in and half out of the garage and only worked during the warmer part of the day.

Disassembly wasn't too difficult, though a couple of the bellhousing bolts were a mother bear. There was a nice next in front of the radiator. I didn't think anything of it, until a snow white marten was standing over the distributor hole this morning staring at me. I about jumped through the roof. I guess he hadn't gotten the memo and found a new house yet.

This motor is huge. I hope I can still squeeze my wife's car in the garage with it or my name will be mud.

Re: 1991 V3500 Project Heavy Hauler

better make sure the marter didnt knaw on any of the engine wiring
better to find that now than when the engine is in the other truck and youre fighting gremlins
