I clicked edit and it showed me he tried to post an image link. I copied link to another window and it came up. So I figured that site doesn't allow image linking, so I just copied link instead of adding it into software code.

Why did Alaskan make a 10 ft. camper? Would be too long for a Longhorn as well.

Vintage cap for a Longhorn. It would be hard to find another.

My 86 in 92.
I only had in on the truck when we would camp at the Winston Cup races at Loudon, NH in the 90's. Throw an air mattress back there and voila, instant camper.

Nice pic and truck! Had to cross-post it in the vintage squarebody thread:

Alaskan likes to see utility bodies used and heavier trucks. They even offer a package with utility body. Also, most slide-in campers have a 10' floor leaving 2' overhang. I always wondered what good did adding 6" to make a Longhorn did. Never seen a camper made 6" longer for those, only toppers.

I have a '91 Alaskan 8' cab-over. I'll post pics when it's back on the truck.

Thanks!
It was a nice truck except for the fact it had an absolute gutless 305 in it, and it went through multiple fuel pumps, to the point that I wound up running an electric fuel pump on the fender well.
I got rid of it in 1999 with 247K miles. Actually I donated it, there was nothing left to the body, and the engine was shot.
After that I bought my first (and to this day only) brand new vehicle - a refrigerator white 99 C2500.

Most modern people who know nothing about pickups think all pickups back in the day were bought by people to do work, such as farmers, blue collar handyman types or trades type persons. They know nothing about the 3/4-1 ton "Custom Camper" or "Camper Special" type of pickup that was originally bought for recreation. Many, not all, camper pickups were bought by the "well to do", doctors, dentists, lawyers, corporate titans etc. that enjoyed nature, outdoors and travelling to great landmarks and parks and could afford the more expensive camper units.

Good score, delivered even! Looks similar to the Trav A Lite cap on my truck. I literally picked this out of a farmer's field on the way to Crusin the Coast a few months back. Gave it to me for peanuts.
I'd say it's $50-250 range depending on location, $100 on average.

Re: Caps, toppers, camper shells - ONLY!

Thanks, I gave $100.00 for it which seemed fair since he loaded it up and delivered it. When the weather warms up I will get it cleaned up and see what I've got.
