Stopped by the shop this afternoon. The good news is the truck will be ready to go to Mike's for wiring, starting & final tuning Friday or Saturday. The bad news is Mike doesn't have room in his shop right now so it's going to have to go home for a couple weeks. During this time I will "fender fondle" it! Lol. I'll likely install the headlight gaskets/buckets, front signals, front bumper, etc. stuff to keep things moving that have to be done anyway.
http://i832.photobucket.com/albums/z...ps5eme7zhx.jpg

I have to make a final decision on what gauges I want to use so they'll get here in time to support the wiring of the truck.
http://i832.photobucket.com/albums/z...ps9fcdxh7n.jpg

I need a couple bolts: The large bolt top rear of front fenders that bolt them to the cab. They're carbon steel but I want stainless to avoid rust. Anyone know the size/length/thread of that bolt?
I also need to replace the bolts that go horizontally through the top of each front fender into the top sides of the core support.
Yes, I have the Factory Assembly Manual but its with Marcos.

The "bling"

Just because I like shiny. I think I may need chrome or SS washers below these bolts though.

I like the VHX and the HDX; though HDX is expensive as hell. If there's any substantive difference between them other than their appearance, I don't know what it is.

The one that closely looks like the factory cluster is also nice. I'd probably use black but white is nice too (too 2000's?) of their off white/tan might go with my eventual interior color.

I have the VHX and UHX came out before my build is done. As you know I'm not done with my build but I can tell you the VHX is a comprehensive kit. When you factor all the stuff you get it's a bargain.

Yeah, I REALLY like both the VHX and HDX. Both; but especially the HDX, are pricey as hell but have a LOT of functions, "customize-ability" and of course the lifetime warranty which I value a lot. Then on top of all that they have modules for gear position sensor, OBDII interface, temperature/compass functions and probably an automatic masturbator too, lol:lol:

I like all the functions but does anyone really NEED all that? Then again does anyone NEED to restomod a 60 year old truck?

Drip....drip...drip...Chinese water torture!

But at least if it's home a week or two I can put the new wheels on it, mount hood hinges, maybe install the chrome windows and wind wings, etc.

Looking good Dan! Hey, what seals did you end up using for the rear of your inner fenders (to cab)? Are they standard LMC, Brothers, etc. or Steele, etc.? I had heard from someone on here that the stock replacement ones didn't fill the gap fully. How do yours fit?

Thanks, Jim

Hi Jim,
I bought my inner fender-to-firewall seals from the Car and Truck Shop locally in Orange, CA. They must be duplicates of the stock ones because I don't think they fit perfectly but I'm not too worried about it.

Hay Dan it's looking great !

Are the red portions in the grill area next to the rad support going to be black along with anything else behind the grill ? Like the a/c components & rad . I hope so .

Looking good Dan - the Dakota stuff all just had a price increase of about $200 for everything out there. I was shopping a VHX 1100 for my truck about 4 months ago and its was only 795/ now 995.... They've been getting alot of ad space with all the builder shows out there and SEMA recognition now.... guess DD is getting more than enough of the business now that they dont really care if they price the little guys out of using their stuff anymore.

Gotta pay to play I guess....

Im still shopping

Thanks guys. Yes, some progress but a lot of down time between.

I need to swap the "cup" off Flaming River column. Damaged in shipment from the Craigslist seller. I have the replacement but it takes a special tool. Need to do this so I can send it for polishing to avoid another week delay waiting around for it when the truck is in for wiring. Mike has this tool but the job is low priority to him; he's got a shop full of projects right now.

Today I had the tires mounted & blalanced. Getting caps on was an issue until we figured out to grease the O-rings. When the truck gets here I'll see how everything looks. Look GREAT in my garage. We'll see how I feel about them on the truck. Sorry for the slightly out of focus pic:

Here's a clearer photo. I think the tires fit perfect. Anyway. I'm very happy so far.
