Re: 67 C10 "Green Gobblin" straight from the field!
Read from page 1. Great work!! Its obvious that your welding work is great but I'm really surprised how well the patina match is done. That green is rad.

Ya theres lots of cutting and welding going on! I figured what the heck I've got nothing to loose if it doesn't turn out as a beat up long box isn't worth too much! Nope no warpage as I'm pretty careful to keep the heat out of the panel with many tacks while allowing the panel to cool. |

The paint match/blending is tricky but the goal is to have a original green beat up looking short box! (with air ride :metal:) lol |

Now I've got some pics of the drivers box side shortening. I had to do this side a little different as it had some old damage/bodywork and some serious rust! I cut 8" out trying to take the majority of the old repair out. It caused a few issues with the sloping body line and the bottom alignment but nothing a little massaging while welding couldn't fix! I don't like cutting straight across a panel as its going to be a tough blend later but i didn't really have a choice.

Going back Together! In the first two pics you can see some of the alignment issues when cutting in the middle of the panel.

Now I won't go to crazy with the pics for the front section as its pretty much the same from the other side!

Did a little work to the truck so i figured id update the progress! Finally it was something other than metal work! I put the cab onto the frame (to make some room in my garage) and my hoist is being used so I also had to rig up a few things to get it done as you'll see in the pics! LOL
I was nervous to see how everything would fit after putting the new floor in but it looks good just like factory! |

I also got my front wheels and tires together and I was pretty anxious too mock them up to see if they were to wide or how'd they fit? I slapped the fender on to take a look at the size and height and it's not to bad considering i don't have my drop spindle in there yet. Its getting close to the look im after!:metal:

Well i actually raised the frame to the cab with the jack. Once the cab wood was sitting on the frame i slid the 2x6s out. Im not going to lie it was tricky and not the best plan but it worked! hope that helps? Good luck! LOL

Re: 67 C10 "Green Gobblin" straight from the field!
Good morning fellow North Dakotan! I'm loving this thread! I've got a '72 C20 from Bowman, ND that was once my grandpa's old farm truck. I'm originally from Grand Forks living in MN since my wife is from here. I miss ND like crazy, but like my mother in law told me when I got married, I can either be happy or be right. So, happiness it is and if the wife's happy, I'm happy! Lol.
Anywho, I'll be following this build and I've always meant to drive the ol Green Beast back to Bowman and visit family out there. Glad to see the project is going well. I've gotta admit, I admire your patience in working tirelessly on a project like the one you've got. I've had trouble getting my truck running and it makes me crazy! I just swapped a bad 305 for a strong 350 and now I've got a power issue. I can't seem to get power to anything and I've got a fully charged battery. I'm pretty "green" when it comes to electrical wiring so, there's something I'm missing, I just need to find the time and follow the wiring diagram. Keep up the awesome progress! I'm excited to see that Gobblin get finished! |
Re: 67 C10 "Green Gobblin" straight from the field!
Thank! It sounds like you've got quite the project on the go too! That's cool that you've got grampa's old truck it gives it sentimental value and motivation to keep going! Start a build thread if you haven't already so we can follow along!
Oh and yes happy wife = happy life! Lol Posted via Mobile Device Posted via Mobile Device |

I also got in my front disc brake drop spindle kit with all the Moog suspension pieces i could find online! I also ordered up the front airbags and steel to fab up a cupped lower control arm. |
