I got the oil pump, windage tray, pickup, and pan installed as well as the front and rear covers. Stored in a plastic bag for now until the heads are reconditioned. I found two broken exhaust manifold studs. One came out easily, but the other is broken below the mounting surface and will need drilled to extract it. Oh joy.

Re: Project Mr. Green Jeans (now 5.3 LS turbo build!)
Ordered today: New exhaust studs with nuts and OBX stainless shorty headers. Still on the "to order" list is fuel line and fuel line connectors.

Cylinder head repair last night. Broke the metric tap, so just drilled it out larger and tapped it at 3/8 16 thread and used a SBC header bolt. Done. Tonight is lapping the valves and seating everything up with the new LS9 springs.

The transmission is here in town! I just have to wait for a call back from a delivery manager to set up the lift gate delivery to my house. Excited because I spent more on the transmission and delivery to my house than I did on buying the truck delivered to my house LOL!
Ordered today: Knock sensors and fuel line with parts. |

Transmission will be delivered tomorrow.
Tonight, I worked on the heads. Lapped the valves in and reassembled with new seals and the LS6 springs. |
Re: Project Mr. Green Jeans (now 5.3 LS turbo build!)
Ordered today: HPTuners VCM Suite, one knock sensor (my connector broke), o2 sensors.

Transmission was there last night so popped it open and got a few pictures. Sign on top says Fragile. Please give a shift LOL! :metal: I also worked under the hood of the truck for the first time in a while. Swapped out the brake booster (had a small leak), and had to cut and chisel the old brackets off to bolt to the newer one. Luckily the holes already lined up, so it wasn't too bad at all. Cleaned up some wiring and figured out a few changes that I'll need to make for the new stuff to go in... And also, I FOUND MY MISSING FUEL GAUGE WIRE! Someone had cut it and tucked It inside the harness covering and taped it up. I hooked up the wires to a test source and Poof, working gas gauge! :metal: |

Got the intake on and accessories too, though the picture doesn't show it all. Quite an ugly intake for such a beautiful engine. |

It's looking great!

Re: Project Mr. Green Jeans (now 5.3 LS turbo build!)
Next up, making some plugs for the EGR and the evap sensor holes. Hopefully the used valve covers I purchased from Ebay will be here soon and I can button it up.

Assembled the engine to the transmission today and got it into the engine bay!!! Several more parts coming in the mail that should be here soon. Next is swapping out the two piece bolt on yolk TH400 drive shaft for a one piece slip yoke TH350 drive shaft to make sure it all lines up, then I can tighten down the Dirty Dingo engine mounts fully and drill the frame for the moved transmission mount.

Engine mounts adjusted, transmission mount installed, EGR block off (1 3/8" freeze plug, plus a bolt on cover, both epoxied in place too), vapor line plugged with a 3/8" threaded allen plug plus epoxied, messed with the ac compressor to see if I could make the stock position work (looks like it will if I notch the frame and I modified the factory bracket a little bit too).

I got the 1998 Camaro temp sensor installed. It's a 3 wire sensor where 1 wire will go to the factory temp gauge :metal: and the other two wires tell the ecu the temp. Wiring pigtail is not here yet.
Installed the used EBay valve covers. Ordered 16 gauge 304 stainless steel mandrel bends, stainless t4 flange, 304 stainless Silverado manifold flanges, t4 oil feed flange... Hot side mockup will begin shortly. |

Put together the power steering pump tonight. Aside from needing to bend the return line a little, it bolted right up. Started on the wiring tonight as well. Trimmed back the fuel gauge wire a bit and reterminate it. Starter wires need a couple of feet removed too. Then run power to the tank area for the pump. Then add the engine harness and ecu. Getting closer!!! |
